The factory coolant is a special 5 year coolant. Are you not sure that it isn't orange. Chrysler recommends that you use their coolant. I have had no problems using Prestone 5 year antifreeze. It is compatible with any type/color antifreeze. It can be purchased as a 50/50 mix with distilled water for the same price as 100% antifreeze. It is less expensive to add your own distilled water( 68 cent a gallon at Walmart). ----------

Yes, It IS ORANGE.....I really should have looked in the owners manual before I went and added about a quart of the ORANGE "Final Charge" coolant that I had just used when I serviced the cooling system on my 1999 Ford F350 7.3 Diesel. I really should have waited and looked at the owners manual first. Wal-Mart carries this "Final Charge" coolant pre-mixed in a 50/50 setup and in HD Diesel engines CAN go 600,000 miles by adding some new additives at around 300,000, so IT must be GOOD stuff!! I just hope I didn't do something stupid by adding it to the stuff thats in the '06 PT GT!! ----------

It must say HOAT, Hybrid Organic Acid Technology on the antifreeze bottle. You can't use regular coolant. ---------- 2005 Stone White SRT4 2004 Graphite Auto

Yes, I agree with mean green that you should only use a coolant with HOAT, such as Mopar 5yr/100,000 mile antifreeze/coolant. My Chrysler dealer said to only use this type of coolant because other types of coolant can damage the vehicle's cooling system. The problems range from shortening the life of the coolant to destroying seals, radiator, and water pump. ----------

But I'd say that it's just about how much coolant you've added. I mean...if you've added 1 pint of "not-the-right-stuff-but-coolant/antifreeze-anyway", mixed with all the regular stuff already in the system, I can't see why you'll have a problem IMO. ----------

Quote: But I'd say that it's just about how much coolant you've added. Yes, if it was not alot, then there is not too much to worry about. In my PT I needed to top off my power steering fluid and I used a little power steering fluid instead of ATF+4. I found out later about the mix-up. My mechanic said that as long as it was not too much that it should be OK, but at around 60,000 to get the system flushed anyway. I had about 35,000 on the clock and now I have close to 51,000. ----------

Texico was one of the first with a 5 year extended warranty. Many cars experienced premature head gasket failure. The thought was that some sort of chemical reaction to the AF occoured with certain head gasket materials. This was especially a problem with the 2.8L V8 GM motors. The problem was solved with Texico not admitting there was ever a problem. Prestone claims their AF is compatable with any AF regardless of color. ----------
