08-20 Coast PT Cruise-In Sets New State Record (sort of ) pics Can't Post

On a dreadfully soggy summer night more suited to ducks than PT Cruisers, the North Coast PT Cruisers Weekly Cruise-In (the only such weekly event anywhere in the entire world) set a new state record, although it was not the one they had been hoping to establish. It was hoped that a new record for the most PT Cruisers at a single PT event in the Buckeye state would be established this evening.

But Mother Nature would not cooperate as the floodgates of heaven kept opening and closing all evening. The expected crowd of PT Cruisers did not materialize and none of the featured cars (Roman Chariot, Viper, Prowler) wanted to get wet. The weather was so bad, that Mrs. PT-MD and I thought we would see 5 PT Cruisers, at most.

Boy were we surprised!!! Thirty-two (32) PT Cruisers owned by the most dedicated band of PT NUTS in the world set a new State Record in a category we just invented – “The Most PT Cruisers at a Rain-Plagued Event in Ohio”. Can you believe this?

The (SilverMan) Stats:
Sorry....stats got soggy. Lots of Inferno Reds Tho. Cranberry's started fast....but got shut out at the end.

Most of the “regulars” were on hand, as well as 5 new cars that came as a result of a notice in the Sunday Plain Dealer. We could have broken the state record if a few more of the regulars had showed up with their cars. I’m not going to mention Bob Schroeder by name because I don’t want to embarrass him. But one of our members showed up in his pickup truck and left his nice dry PT Cruiser at home. And I won’t mention Carmen and Rose either.

PT-Flash showed up in his beautiful Cranberry Cruiser (protected by 97 coats of Zaino) and his car did not even get wet. That Zaino is GREAT STUFF !!!

I guess this proves something…but I can’t think of what at the moment. You figure it out !!!

A meeting was held under cover, and the following topics were discussed:

- First time guests were asked to raise their hands, and 5 newbies were present
- The T-shirt design is progressing, and orders were taken. Sample should be available next week
- Polo shirt samples were displayed and orders were taken, delivery next week
- The need to keep records and document the modifications to your car for insurance purposes was discussed by Tony Z.
- It was decided not to give out door prizes this week
- A Super Cruise In will be held on Labor day from 3pm till ??? A Disc Jockey,
Door prizes, and shared tail-gate munchies are part of the fun
- A Halloween (costumes) Cruise-In will be held in October

It was Gene Sprocket’s birthday, so we embarrassed him by singing an off-key group rendition of “Happy Birthday” as we munched on goodies provided by the lovely Mrs. Sprocket (Joan). It was number 39 for how many times now Gene?

It did stop raining for a while, so we performed out usual ritual of schmoozing, and looking at each other’s cars. It has become a contest to see who has done what to their car(s) recently. The latest fad is painted (decals actually) headlight covers. We will post pics of them next week.

A 2002 Almond Pearl PT Cruiser was on display, courtesy of Deacon Chrysler-Plymouth. The most noticeable differences were: a passenger seat folding armrest, and much smaller rear seat headrests. Other, subtler differences became apparent with some observation. Thank you Deacon Chrysler-Plymouth for bringing the car.

Tim Mikol, of Tim’s Auto Trim in Macedonia, Ohio was on hand to perform some pin striping magic in between the raindrops. Jack and Carolyn Neubauer were able to have a set of silver pinstripes applied to their (now even more) beautiful Patriot Blue Cruiser. Hopefully, they won’t fall off soon. If they do, no problem. Tim has promised to be back on September 3rd for our Labor Day Super Cruise-In.

Do you work too late on Monday to come to our regular Cruise-In? Do you live in a neighboring state that is too far to drive on Monday evening? Here is YOUR chance to become a member of the North Coast PT Cruisers: Our Labor Day Super Cruise-In will feature:
…3 pm start …lasting until the last car leaves the parking lot

…An attempt to set another state record – we expect 60 cars to be here
…A disc jockey – the FABULOUS (Hi Yo )SILVER, MAN !!!

The North Coast PT Cruisers will be traveling to the Quaker Steak & Lube PT Cruise-In (Sharon Pa) this coming Sunday (August 26). It starts at 1 pm and ends at 5pm. Cruisers from NY and PA are expected to be there too. A caravan headed by our leader, (Lead Foot) Nancy Jo, will meet at the Medical Building parking lot at Cedar and Brainard at 11:15 am. It will depart at 11:30 am.

Nancy Jo will attempt to break her previous record of losing seven cars in the caravan at a stoplight. She promises never to look in her rear view mirror or go less than 85 mph this time.
