2006 Turbo HO 230 hp, preformance upgrades Can't Post

Looking for a cold air intake for the HO Turbo 2006, the only thing I see on line is the K and N that will fit the 2006, but I heard it does not have a heat shield and it will sap the torque 14-18 pounds, does anyone know if Mopar or Airraid will be coming out with anything soon, or does anyone know of a good preformance shop in san antonio tx, military who just moved from japan ( 6 years) looking to spend up to $1000-1500 locally for upgrades, also is there a stage 1 coming out soon for this model or is that just for the Turbo lite looking to boost from 230hp to 245 with about 260 pounds of
torque, any suggestions, looking for a shop to complete this work, of course I do not to void any warranty only 800 miles on car

Hey

I put a K&N replacement element, removed the silencer from the top of the OEM filter box and finally bought an AMX1397TTAB from Jim (alluminum tube that goes from the OEM airbox to the turbo) and it works fine.

I guess stage 1 is available by now...

Hi: it WILL void the warranty if you have any problems they trace to the air intake at a dealership......go look at the accessories board....I just got done with a dealer looking up all engine mods this morning. And another poster says that DC is cracking down, even on Mopar parts. I wanted to put a new air intake on, too, but that was one of the no no's during my 3/36 warranty. Go see my list on that discussion I just posted today.
Lis

PS: so do the stage 2 upgrade chips for the GT, just like my stage 1 upgrade for my diet turbo would void the warranty IF any problem I ask to have fixed can be traced to these parts.

DC is the only company I know of that will try and punish you if you even use Mopar upgrades. Seems stupid to me since they make them. No other company will do this as a means to deny warranty claims. Ford, Mazda, Honda, to name a few, will not void your warranty for using their performance parts. I would like to know what an air intake or bov will do to cause a problem. Depending on what intake you have, an open one will gain 2-3 hp, BUT you will lose 10+ lbs/ft of torque so that's a no brainer. If it is an open intake then sell it and get a K&N drop in one which will still give you a 2-3 hp gain, but you won't lose any torque. The bov is just a noise maker and does nothing for performance. I'm running 320 hp on my srt-4 with the stock surge valve and my car, according to my wife ROFL, is scary fast. The stage 1 upgrade is tricky because it is engine management, but I've never heard of anyone, PT turbo or srt-4, that has had a problem with a stage upgrade hurting an engine or tranny. Luckily I have two dealers, my wife's Chrysler dealer and my Dodge dealer who are cool with mods and the mods have to directly cause a problem therefore voiding warranty for a particular problem. Sucks that most dealers will void a warranty for anything just because you have a mod (s).....Ther is no Mopar stage 2 for the PT turbo. DC knew the auto tranny could not handle stage 2 power so they pulled the plug on stage 2. You can get to stage 2 power numbers, though, with aftermarket parts, but you'll also have to upgrade the auto tranny to endure it. With a 5 speed you just have to upgrade the clutch.

Boy, I musta been on one helluva website where I saw those prices! But note: my dealer did NOT try to do this to me...it was online. Anyway, I see the mopar automatic tranny Stage 1's cost $429-$469 depending upon what site you visit. http://www.mopar.com/...s_ptturbo_stage1.htm

At the bottom of the page: Not legal for sale or use on pollution controlled motor vehicles. Click here for the complete Mopar Performance Parts Warranty and Additional Notes.
-------------------------------------

I think this is the WHOLE turbo? LOL! That's probably what I saw??? The price I saw for Stage 1 must have been for a total conversion to turbo??
http://www.howellautomotive.com/...WPROD&ProdID=319
STAGE 2 BY Hahn for the PT cruiser: $3,495.00 on sale; normal list: $3,800

BUT, I KNOW I did see this: Mopar Stage 2 turbo upgrade kit, but listed for the SRT4, so perhaps technically speaking, you're right: http://www.mopar.com/...ucts_srt4_stage2.htm
NOTE: The Stage 2 Turbo Upgrade Kits have not been emission certified or submitted to CARB for emissions exemption. Therefore, vehicles with Stage 2 Turbo Upgrade kits are intended for closed-course driving only.

PN: P5007863 (2003-04)
Part numbers and pricing for 2005 model-year vehicles will be announced soon.

STAGE 3: http://www.mopar.com/...ucts_srt4_stage3.htm
No price; mopar says it's "coming soon"

Re: [Melissa] 2006 Turbo HO 230 hp, preformance upgrades Can't Post

From the warranty statement you referred to: "The addition of performance parts does not by itself void a vehicle's warranty. However, added performance parts (parts not originally supplied on the vehicle from the factory) are not covered by the vehicle's warranty, and any failure that they may cause is also not covered by the vehicle's warranty"

The performance parts themselves carry no warranty.
A vehicle with performance parts (Mopar) installed is not guaranteed to pass emissions inspection.
A warranty claim that is a direct result of having a performance part installed will not be honored.

Is this not the way this reads to you?

Also depends on how old the site is. Note that the one you linked to said " Part numbers and pricing for 2005 model-year vehicles will be announced soon." That is a pretty old site. I called two local dealers and was quoted $600 at one and $589 at the other for the kit for the 2004 auto. Haynes Speed Shop is currently $450 plus tax and shipping.

Re: [scotner] 2006 Turbo HO 230 hp, preformance upgrades Can't Post

Scotner: FYI: I never once tried to claim that any parts by Mopar automatically voided the warranty. Here's what I said that was told to me by Chrysler on paper to the dealer: if the DEFECT or DAMAGE could be traced to an aftermarket part, even a Mopar part, THEN the warranty would be voided in that case.

Prices: yeah, I see they're quite variable. Lis

Scotner: sorry......I see where you thought I had said that just putting a part on would void the warranty.....I really didn't mean it that way......if you see my other posts in the other thread about this, you'll see that....in this thread, what I should have said about the part I wanted to put on was: ".....if anything goes wrong that can be traced to the air intake (or whatever part I wanted to put on), it won't be covered."

Yeah, I was bouncing back and forth between two threads and email. I wasn't sure after your reply just what I had replied to. No problem. We all have the same interests and hopefully we are headed in the same direction.
I talked to my service manager yesterday and raised the Stage 1 subject with him. His reply was "I can't see how putting a MOPAR part on a Chrysler vehicle would void the warranty". Of course, it stands to reason that self control is a given here. If you are replacing the front tires twice a month and breaking axle shafts one after the other, there is cause for alarm. But we are older and more responsible now, AREN'T WE?

Re: [scotner] 2006 Turbo HO 230 hp, preformance upgrades Can't Post

Scotner: Um.........ARE we?DanceLOL!!

Well, your service manager was right.....it doesn't void the warranty.....well, um, unless it causes problems and you try to submit a claim---LOL!! Tell him the letter came out in Aug. 05 (at least I think that was the Stage 1 letter, but it might have been their tirade about suspension mods) from Chrysler to all dealers about the Stage 1......that's what my service manager dug out. In that letter, Chrysler was very adamant that they don't care if it IS Mopar or not...if the problem is traceable back to the aftermarket part as the root cause, they won't pay. But I agree.....how dumb is all of this? They love sellin' ya the stuff, I guess, just to they can double-whammy the customer on warranty work? I think they should compromise here: if the customer buys Mopar parts and then has them installed by a regular dealer service shop, then the warranty work should be covered--maybe not the aftermarket part itself, but it's functionality in the vehicle. I think this would be at least a partially fair compromise, because it excludes the home mechanic installations (no offense to home mechanics by any means--just meant this as a compromise for warranty coverage).

Oh....I gotta go hide the checkbook now from hubby.......I just got done with a motherlode from Cruiserbits before all of the PT parts are gone.....dang! I wanted that Borla catback dual exh., but my bill was already too high....and I'm not thrilled about having to cut into my bumper, either.

Take it easy, LisWave
