20" Rims & Tires / Exhaust systems / Super charger

I am considering doing several things to my 2002 Touring Edition PT cruiser. It is a 5 speed manual. I have been told that I can get 20" rims and tires on the PT. I searched and found that this is almost possible. I would also like to work on getting a little more speed from my PT. What type of exhaust system should I get? Would a supercharger or an aftermarket turbo charger work? What about Nitrous? Are there places that I can get a custom carbon fiber hood replacement for the PT? I am a big Illini fan, and a supporter of Chief Illiniwek. I would like to get a Chief logo on the hood. Thanks in advance. Kerry ----------

I searched and found that this is almost possible. Keep in mind your tires will have a very small sidewall and you'll feel every bump in the road. Potholes can destroy your rims. But they sure look cool. I would also like to work on getting a little more speed from my PT. What type of exhaust system should I get? You won't get any more power from an aftermarket exhaust. Get one for the cool sound they make. Would a supercharger or an aftermarket turbo charger work? I've known a few who have had a supercharger and were happy, but keep in mind you won't get the power you'd get with a turbo. You can add a turbo, but if you plan to boost above 8 psi plan on beefing up the internals. It could get spendy. It would be cheaper just to get a PT turbo. What about Nitrous? It's been done and you have to know what you're doing or you could blow up your motor. Are there places that I can get a custom carbon fiber hood replacement for the PT? Thank you. I would have someone install the Nitrous for me. What about cold air intake? ----------

Also keep in mind that installing 20" wheels and getting your car to go faster are inherently in conflict! I'd bet that it will be very difficult (if at all possible) to find 20" wheels that are lighter than your stock 16" or 17" wheels. If you could find them, they would be expensive $$$$$. Heavier wheels give you slower acceleration, longer stopping distances, and slower steering response. Any little power gains you may get from a cold air system will be lost in those wheels.

I decided to buy 18" wheels, DIP, Ninja, D65s. They are matched with Sunny 225/40-18 tires. I am getting a quote on the following: air intake upgraded exhaust turbo/super charger chip upgrade and other performance options Hope I can get it all. ----------

If it's a true cold air intake then fine. If it sucks hot engine air you will lose some torque. Airaid makes a good one that makes a great effort to block out hot engine air. ---------- 2005 Stone White SRT4 2004 Graphite Auto

I hope that I would not pay to have the intake modified and get hot air back. I will check that for sure. Thank you. ----------
