Air Elevation affects Turbo boost?
|

Hi, I was in Tahoe this weekend with my PT turbo. I noticed that my turbo was a little louder and kicked in around 2000 RPM. Does the elevation in tahoe (4500ft) affect this? Also, is there a way to make the turbo louder (the actual whine)? 1 more.... Will the Pop-off valve still make a sound on an automatic? Sorry last 1... I hear some dual exhausts on a couple Neon SRT 4's. Very beasty, almost v8ish, anyone know what they might be using? sorry for all the questions! ----------

One good thing about a turbo and higher elevation is the higher elevation doesn't effect the performance of the turbo like it does a na (non aspirated) car. While the na will start gasping for air the turbo goes merrily along. If you want to hear the turbo you should remove the two silencers in the airbox ('06 only has one) and replace the turbo to airbox hose. There is a silencer in there that cannot be removed. From '03-'05 there is a white doughnut in the airbox lid that you can take off. If you don't want to make your own hose you can buy one from a guy named Jim who makes a very nice one. amx1397@comcast.net It's called the AMX1397TTAB hose and sells for around $125. It is a great piece of work and sells well. At the bottom of the airbox is a silencer that is connected to the snorkle that feeds cold air from the fenderwell hole. You can remove this silencer by cutting it flush to the inside of the airbox and popping the snorkle back in place. You will not hear the surge valve as well as you do with the 5 speed. The stock exhaust system on the SRT-4 has two resonators and no mufflers. You like that sound you should hear my SRT-4. 3" o2 housing, 3" downpipe with a Magnaflow highflow cat and the Mopar exhaust with the 2 1/4" bottlneck removed. Lots of pops and gurgles on deceleration and a very nice growl when I open it up. I keep the rpm's down and the noise down in populated areas so I won't get hassled for noise by the police. It's not ear shattering but I could get hassled for noise by a cop with nothing better to do. Besides I never get on it in populated areas anyways. That's stupid. Have fun with your toy. ---------- 2005 Stone White SRT4 2004 Graphite Auto

Works awesome at 12,000+ in the Colorado Rockies. Can't ask for anything better than a turbo in the mountains. I can cruise over Vail pass at 80 mph and still be in OD. ---------- Jack Smith (Smittys PT) Webmaster Colorado Cruiser Club
