Alternator, ground or electical issue?
|

whenever my RPM's are above idle (it still does it at idle, but not nearly as bad) the interior lights, Dash lights, head lights, fog lights, high beams, reverse lights, brake lights.. pretty much every light FLICKERS CONSTANTLY when your above idle, its even worse when my STOCK sound system's bass hits on a song.. I had the battery changed yesterday, and I even checked, with the car off it pulls 12.9 volts, and running idle 13.9 and under load (2200 RPM's about) 14.3 volts... I'm assuming its my alternator failing.. I've also turned off my remote start (I tried to pull the fuses for it, but the car would die soon after, I'm assuming Circuit City used the SKIM fuse for power. I've also unplugged power to my GPS and Satellite radio and nothing helped.. Also, if it IS the alternator, is it covered under the extended warranty, I'm assuming replacing that is a pretty penny... ---------- 2003 GT Cruiser Fully Loaded Borla Dual Exhaust K&N Drop In filter Viper Remote Start/ Keyless entry

You must have a GT. Because there is allot of the 03-04 GT's that have this problem. Mine does it and has done it since new. Chrysler doesn't think there is a problem. I have replaced the battery, the battery cables and also added a grounding kit. I haven't heard of anyone fixing this problem yet. The more mile I get on mine it seems to get worse. I have a 03 GT. Good luck and if you find out a fix please post. Jerry ----------

Talked with a fellow tech head today, he says the Voltage regulator built into the PCM could have failed.. I'm getting a stage 1 in a few weeks, will see if the new PCM will fix it.. ---------- 2003 GT Cruiser Fully Loaded Borla Dual Exhaust K&N Drop In filter Viper Remote Start/ Keyless entry

guess i'll have to save about 500 bucks then for the stage 1 because i have that same problem... i might try cleaning the posts on the alternator... if you changed batteries, have you changed the terminals as well? i just checked the ptc club store and they're down to 271 a chip! i may just get one within the next couple of months :P ----------

Hate to tell you this, but compaired to a stage 1, the chip is useless, and no the terminals (on the cables I think you mean) weren't changed, they have this funky purple stuff on em though. ---------- 2003 GT Cruiser Fully Loaded Borla Dual Exhaust K&N Drop In filter Viper Remote Start/ Keyless entry

In my case, it did it whether I had stage I installed or the OEM PCM. Problem didn't go away till I cleaned all the ground connections. I now make a point of loosening and retightening all the ground connections once a year when I clean the engine. ----------
