And it was such a beautiful day.

I woke up around 11am this morning to mid 60 degree temperatures and a nice breeze. It was almost like spring. Unfortunately the nice warm feeling didn't last. We recieved a phone call from a lady who said she was behind a guy who hit our dog and that she didn't make it. She said the guy tried to avoid hitting her and that unfortunately, she darted the same direction he swerved. By the time she and the guy got there, she was already dead. She had gotten our phone number from Sugar's collar. We thought she was mistaken, our dog was in our yard... wasn't she? She was there just a minute ago... But she was right. Sugar was missing. Somehow the gate leading to the side yard was opened. Needless to say we were devistated. Sugar was a Bishon Freis (sp?) and we fell in love whith her immediately. She acted like a puppy that never grew up. To be honest, she was still a puppy at just over a year old. My brother and I went and picked up the body. The hardest part was calling my Dad to tell him the news. We got Sugar to help heal the wound of losing our last dog, Goldie. Dad gets especially close to our dogs and Sugar was very soothing to him when we got her. So he was very sad to hear she was gone. At least with Goldie, we knew it was comming. She was very old and got weak before passing. When he got home, we noticed he hadn't come inside. We thought at first he was saying goodbye to her, but he wasn't with the body. My brother found him out back with a shovel. So, we each grabbed one of our own and helped him dig the grave. By this time the wind had picked up considerably and the temperature was plummeting. Then, just as we were starting to cover the grave, it started snowing. It fit well as Sugar loved the snow. By the time we finished, there was a light blanket of snow on the ground. We moved a large peice of sandstone to the head of her grave to mark the spot. She is now burried next to Goldie in the back yard. I honestly don't know why I'm posting this on a car site, but everyone here is more to me than "just people who like the same car as me". Anyway... It's been a bad day. I hope everyone else is having a better one. Here's hoping your loved ones, even of the 4 legged variety, are safe. -Ray ----------

So sorry to hear this Ray. We have a 7 year old Lhasa Apso and he's our only child. I can't imagine losing him suddenly like that, let alone when his time comes naturally. He really is the coolest darn pooch I've ever known. Gotta go give him a hug now. ---------- '04 Limited Edition Platinum Series Turbo Lite + Stage 1 + VAK intake + Magnecor wires = 14.48 @ 95mph Pix here

Thanks guys. Luckily, I am one of 5 children and my folks are still together (27 years and counting!), so I have thier support as well. I just find that talking to someone who isn't already affected helps alot. Plus, writing my problems and worries down always seems to aleviate at least some of the pain and stress. Thanks for lending me your shoulders! This truely is the best car club on the face of the planet. There are none like it. -Ray ----------

Ray, I am so sorry to hear the news about Sugar. One of my cats was hit by a car a few years ago, so I know the pain you're feeling. Like you said, it's unexpected, and you're not ready. Pets are a huge part of our lives; it's like losing a family member. It sounds like you had a lovely funeral for her. You will be in my thoughts, because I know how hard this is. ----------

Ray, I am so sorry to read of your loss. My wife and I have had doxies for 45 years and every time we lose one it really tears me up. I lost my little Lila last July. She was almost 17 yrs. old She died in my arms as I was holding her. We went out and got two more from a doxie rescue. They are so much a part of our lives. Sugar will be waiting for you at the Rain Bow Bridge. Bless you and your family. Charlie ----------

Oh Ray....what a thing to have to go through. But at the end of the day, you can go to bed tonight knowing that whether she lived 1 year or 11 years, you gave Sugar a fantastic life. She could have ended up in an unhappy home, just as easy. So revel in your memories of her and knowing she never suffered. Jim's right about the spelling of dog and how special they are to us that appreciate them. ----------

I'm sorry for your loss. I have 2 dogs--a lab (2yrs) and a Peek-a-poo (6mo). It really is something how they become such a part of the family--just like one of the kids. After all, you gotta teach them right and wrong, potty train them, feed them, play with them... Just like one of the kids. The only difference is they don't hold a grudge. Awe the wonderful memories they help build! I know where to find a pure bred lab for $200...Choice of black or chocolate. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff.
