Another.....mpg's affected by traction cntrl..... Can't Post

Drove down to Florida with traction on and got 23.12 mpg's.....on the way back drove with traction off and got 25.79 mpg's. Similar driving habits both times, similar weather(dry), etc... This is the first time I've tried testing this, but will do more observations during more city driving.

SlAcKeR out!

Do you see the "trac" light flashing in the odometer panel? If you don't see that it isn't doing anything. The only time low speed traction control is working is at speeds below 35 mph and only if one wheel is detected to have a higher speed than the rest due to slippage. The low speed traction control pulses the brakes to that wheel to control slippage. Even under marginal conditions it wouldn't work all the time, and under normal driving it wouldn't work at all.

Either your unit is defective, or some other factor is coming in to play.

The other possiblity is that you have a mismatched set of tires and the system is detecting the difference in diameter. The trac light would be flashing if this was the case.

What I am saying is that when it is off(traction off) vs. when it is on the mpg's are different. It wouldn't have come on cause it was dry both up and down. I have been averaging the same all the time until I decided to do this. In my opinion the traction control influences the mpg's. Nothing is abnormal about the car....just had it serviced. I'll let you know for sure after I do this similar test several times.

One trial is not evidence that it does affect it. I can drive my car hard with the traction control on and get 18mpg, or drive it easy with the traction control off and get 23MPG. Does this mean that trac control affects the MPG?

(#'s are of course just examples)

When you drive toward the equator (south) you are going up hill, thus poorer gas mileage.

All I know is that I drove it same same way both times.....once without and once with and got two variations.

Later.
