Anyone ever remove the top of the dashboard? Can't Post

I installed a Sirius radio in my car, one that uses FM, not a new head unit. Anyway, there are now cables running all over my dash, how do you remove the top of the dashboard so I can run the cables under it?

Thanks!

I pulled the removal/installation pages out of the 2004 Service Manual for you. Open the attachment and you'll have your answer! I've done it and it's quite simple really. It may take a good pull to pop things apart, but they do come apart.

Re: [madkat] Anyone ever remove the top of the dashboard? Can't Post

  1. The factory manual says, there are two little trim pieces on each of the A pillars that you can just pry off. On our car that does not seem to be the case. If you have to remove any such thing, be careful not to damage them.
  2. Next you need to pop the little window switch pannel between the middle vents - again just stick something under it and pry carefully.
  3. Once it pops out, you'll need to pull it half way out and unplug the connection on the back - this is the only somewhat PITA part.
  4. With the switch removed and out of the way, unscrew the one screw that sits behind the switch and holds the vent trim in place.
  5. With the screw out, stick your fingers inside the switch hole and slowly pull back on the trim peice to pop it out. The A/C control knobs will pop out and fall out, but don't worry. There is only one way they'll go back on.
  6. Once the trim is removed, take out the two screws that hold the top of the dash in place.
  7. Once the screws are out, pull back on the top of the dash to pop it out and lift and remove.

Cool

PS: see Mike's picture since he beat me to the post.

Yes, you should be able to. I pulled mine when I replaced the dash speakers and it's really quite simple.

If you have a 2006 or newer PT removing the center panel bezel is different. On it the screws to remove the panel is in both A/C vents. Other then that it's the same.

Re: [madkat] Anyone ever remove the top of the dashboard? Can't Post

Alright guys I just pulled it and snaked my Sirius radio cables through the top vent and it looks MUCH better, thanks! Cheers I have one more request for you guys, is there anything in the service manual about pulling the cover where the 12V cigarette adapter (the one powered whether the key is in or not) and the Traction control and the Rear wiper switch and defogger. I currently have the power cord snaking up the side on the passenger side then cutting into one of the vents and out the top. and is there any way to get a straight shot from the bottom to the top without having to pull the radio or the AC controls out?

Thanks!

Madkat.

P.S Rsobhian I did have to pull the A-Pillar off to get the dash free, I got the left side off no problem, but the right side is short a clip (I have the clip, I just didn't want to break it, it was enough of a pain getting out!

Re: [madkat] Anyone ever remove the top of the dashboard? Can't Post

I'm guessing that I'm not getting exactly what you are trying to do because the unit you are talking about should come out with removing two screws. The radio comes out with removing four screws and the A/C & vent control unit comes out with 2 or 4 screws I forget.

So if I understand what you are trying to do correctly, it's shouldn't take that much work to pop all those units out enough to pass a wire behind them.

I see in your sig that you have the Mopar BOV. How is it? Depending on how much free cash I get from my paycheck, I might buy one.

Its fine. I dont even hear anymore. Best part is when it does go off and folks are looking at you to why the heck that car makes that noise. Just goes off when ever you let up on the throttle. W/ teh stage one its gets louder. and comes on less offten.
