Are YOU the Next Alabama PT Idol? Can't Post

Billboards across Birmingham read "Alabama: Where Idols Are Born." Yep, American Idol is pretty big around here, seein' as how Ruben Studdard, Bo Bice, and Taylor Hicks all hail from our fair city.

We are officially announcing the new contest for this year's Alabama PT Rally (and picnic). Here's your chance—do you have what it takes to be an Alabama PT Idol? Here's the good news: You don't have to be from here to win!

If you were at last year's rally, you remember our colorful DJ, Gary Johnson. He will be returning to host our event in April. It just so happens that Gary's specialty is emceeing karaoke; he has regular gigs throughout Homewood and Birmingham.

So here's the deal:
Gary will spin classic tunes on Saturday while we clean up our Cruisers and get them ready for juding. He'll continue to play through lunch. After lunch (say, around 1:00), we'll have our very own version of Idol. We're even going to have our own Simon, Paula, and Randy to judge the contestants. (Guess that makes Gary our Ryan Seacrest.)

Gary has a wide selection of music to choose from, regardless of your style. We had some folks step up to the mike last year that did a fabulous job! Unlike the television version, we won't make you memorize the words; they will be on the karaoke screen. The winner will be announced during the awards ceremony.

So come show us your stuff! How often does one have the opportunity to sing at the base of Vulcan? You'll literally be singing on the mountaintop! So get registered, come on down, and show us what you got. Your Cruiser just might win a trophy, and YOU could be the next Alabama PT Idol!

Hmmmm...and here I wuz thinkin' weez levelin' the playin' field by havin' sumthin the Yanks and the Southerners could both have a shot at. (No pun intended.)

I caint tell ya what to do, but I will tell you this: That Simon is a mean cuss. Ornery as a hornet with a hangover. That English feller is a daisy compared to Southern Simon. Now Ms. Paula might praise your patriotism, but I'd expect some harsh feedback from Southern Simon. Randy, well, you just never know which way he'll side.

If eyez you, I'd practice a song offa that Southern CD from yer goody bag laist yeer. But that's just me.

Well now, I wasn't sayin' that was gonna happen, seeinz me and Mikie look to appear to be the only yankees headin' that away. I guess I was testin' the water a little bit. Maybe those lyrics could be changed to I'm a Rebel Doodle Dandy. Don't want to be stretchin' that Southern hospitality to far. Also, Simon doesn't have any Mafia conections does he? He was singin' pretty smoooooth last year.

No worries—he's not connected. Wink

Actually, there are quite a few Yankees coming! Right now I have more Yankees registered than Southerners! [gasp] Some are brand-spankin'-new Yankees who've never been to our fine state. In other words, the unititiated. Cool
