Are the cloth tops that good?

Not that I need a new top yet. I was curious to see what a new cloth top would run. I didn't look that hard but one site showed the top costing $800-$900. In comparison a Sebring top was around $350-$450. I realize it is a different top but it seems a pretty big price difference unless the quality is that much better. ----------

You usually see cloth tops on higher end cars, so I guess they are of a higher quality. Also, having have had a vinyl top on a car I used to own, I would imagine that a cloth top would last a lot longer and justify a higher price. I remember vinyl tops always starting to crack on the edges where ever they fold. Actually, for what you get, $800 to $900 doesn't sound unreasonable for a top for a PT Cruiser, I had assumed they would go for around a thousand... ---------- 2005 Bright Silver Convertible, 5 speed with 8 ball knob, chrome door spears, chrome gas cap door, chrome antenna bezel, chrome grill kit, chrome rear bumper pillows, chrome bumper trim, stainless antenna with flames, stainless door panel trim, chrome smoothies with baby moons, 2" wide "gangster" white walls, chrome tail light trim, K&N air filter element in a modified airbox and an oogah horn. Hmmm, what have I forgotten???

PtPenguin, from what I could tell the Sebring tops were cloth as well. Could it be because of the triple layer (I think) that PT's tops cost more? ----------

That's possible, or, maybe because there are more Sebring Conv'ts? I don't know, but it does seem like there are a lot of Sebring rent a cars on the road. ---------- 2005 Bright Silver Convertible, 5 speed with 8 ball knob, chrome door spears, chrome gas cap door, chrome antenna bezel, chrome grill kit, chrome rear bumper pillows, chrome bumper trim, stainless antenna with flames, stainless door panel trim, chrome smoothies with baby moons, 2" wide "gangster" white walls, chrome tail light trim, K&N air filter element in a modified airbox and an oogah horn. I've noticed a lot of Sebring rental cars as well. Although, I was in Vegas last week and I saw more PT's than I could count. Of course I may notice them more now that I have one. ----------

Chryselr tech told me the late model Sebrings all had leaking problems with the tops. Mostly due to the fact that the Sebring was never meant to be a vert, it was chopped. Our pT's are built to be vert's and are not chopped versions of the coupes...:-) ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.
