Best 60 bucks I ever spent for the stereo system Can't Post

Ok, I proposed putting tweeters in the roll bar on my vert on another forum. Basically was told, it's not needed or you won't hear it anyway with the top down.

Well the test was today, 75 sunny top down during rush hour and all night various driving conditions.

The speakers really increased the quality of sound, a lot clearer and richer and didn't have to crank it to hear it well.

I put Polk 1 inch tweeters in the roll bar between the interior lights, great fit and it looks professional.

Way to go. We can do anything with these cars. Just need to think about it a bit.

Well I'm all thumbs...LOL, but seriously there are two rectangular spots on the inside of the center plastic, in the same line as the lights. It almost looks like they made the inside of it with that type of thing in mind?

There are 2 layers of plastic in that center piece, the exterior piece that we see and a clear 1/8th inch thick or so clear plastic reinforcement on the inside. But right in the center of the clear plastic reinforcement piece there are 2 perfectly centered about 4 inch rectangle holes in the clear plastic, all that had to be cut was the exterior...if you do it cut it from the outside in and use a small file to clean the edges so the mounting cup mounts better. Just center up the support cup and use a drill mounted hole saw. And the installation pieces that came with the speakers fit perfectly, mounting brackets, supports, and wiring. Dumb luck!!! LOL

Best way to show it....sorry dial up users, I tried to make them as small as possible.

Make sure to take some pics. I'd love to see what that looks like!!

The only issue I've found from my speaker install was that the rubber piece that goes between the two external pieces on the backside came loose. I replaced it and it's still in place fine. If it slips a little loose again, I'll put a dab of silicone here and there to tack it in place. Not a lot just a little. But still all is holding up well and it's nice to be able to clearly hear the radio with the top down on the highway!

Re: [tmade] Best 60 bucks I ever spent for the stereo system Can't Post

I cut the hole just a tad to big so you can see the cut but the tweeters are chrome and go nicely with the chrome door handle below it. Overall looks good. They are cheapo tweets till I find some better one then I think I am going to get some good audio bahns with the removable tweeters and flush em in which will look better and the cut won't be visable. Try to get pics this weekend...But the sound in the car is much better. I also threw some old clarions in the doors...Only thing left of the stock stereo is the back speakers which will change also. Prolly after I get my 4 12's installed...
