Bumper tape marks

For those of you that might still have this problem. I was talking to one of the Greater Toledo PT members a couple of weeks ago and he told me I could get rid of the bumper tape marks on my '01' with fine steel wool (0000) . I tried it on a small area and it worked. So I did the front and rear in about an hour and they look great. Who knew? The marks are gone and no scratching. ---------- If it's gonna happen - it's gonna happen out there.

That's amazing! I had mine painted several years ago; I couldn't get them to go, but I didn't try that. ----------

Be sure and use wd40 on the bumper while rubbing with the steel wool...keep it wet. ----------

You have a good point....these marks were from the original tape that the factory used. I use steel wool and WD40, it works good. But they're still there. And we thot that was a problem that would be short lived, with the 2001's and 2's!?! ----------

I use the finest steel wool available, I don't know that I would venture to use SOS pads on mine. Keeping it moist will prevent scratching, like Wet Sanding. It's got to be the '01-'02 models that are black plastic.....it's pretty strong stuff. The marks showed up way after delivery, because it is residue left over from the tape they used, and is down inside each little pit in the plastic. It eventually got dirty or accumulated cleaning agents, causing it to show up. That's just my opinion. The best alternative is painting them, some do it themselves and most have it done professionally. Good luck to everyone, and their white marks. ----------

I would think it should. Try it on a small spot on the side first to test it. Mine's an '01' and it was getting worse as time went on. I didn't know they made different shades of grey, but it's the same material. ---------- If it's gonna happen - it's gonna happen out there.

Sorry guys ....I shouldn't have said "black", they only made one color of unpainted bumpers. Mine is gray, as you can see in my picture to the left, and just for note...my white marks didn't show up until 2006. Go figure. ----------

Hi Bruiser, I've got one of the 1st ones (built Apr 2000) and the bumpers are grey. I was going to have mine painted black, but after cleaning the marks off it didn't seem to be worth the $400. Slipfit ---------- If it's gonna happen - it's gonna happen out there.
