Car Care Products ..... Can't Post

Alright so after reading that the back to balck product by Mothers helped restore the tape marks on the bumper problem and the side pillers I went out and got some. I can honestly say that I'm not to impressed with the product .... although it did make the bumpers look like a deeper grey ..... I was looking for more of an improvement from what everyone was saying. I will continue to use the product to see how long it takes to restore the bumper better but not expecting it to look brand new or anything. If anyone has any tips or tricks let me know so I can give that a try.

I also bought the headlight cleaning product PlastX by Meguiars to see if I could clean those off .... hahah ROFL that was a joke !!!! It removed some of the yellowing ... and I use the word SOME strongly !!! I even went as far as to use a buffer ( keep in mind I deatil cars for a living so I know what I'm doing ) and that didnt even make an improvement. I did go on ebay and buy headlight replacements so I'm not to worried about it but still I thought this product would show a better improvement.

Finally I bought Meguiars ColorX. I washed my car and used this product on the roof ... as a starting point. What I found was that this product does exactly what is says it does and that is removes fine scratches and swirl marks. I states that its a polish and wax combination but sense I like to wax my car I added another layer or wax. All I can say to that is that my roof is now as smoooooooth as a baby ass Smile

If anyone else has used these products let me know what you think of them !!!!

I use back to black on my other car more than the PT. I find that just waxing the b-pillars works better, I felt Mothers left it greasy. I agree about the bumpers, it helped a little giving it a wet look, but works better on darker or black plastic parts like I have on my Jeep Commander.
I love their chrome polish too. It does a great job on wheels.

I was begining to think that I was the only one useing these products anymore ROFL My pillers werent bad until I start working at a care care place where I get to wash me PT for free lol. Greasy is almost a understatement I almost took nail polish remover to it to get the greasyness off. I useto have 2 Jeep Wranglers so I know how much back to black can help after a good day of off roading Wink

As for the chrome polish .... dont know just yet but I'm working on it !!!

WaveI had tried the back-to-black but only on the mud flaps. the dealer took care of the tape lines on our '03 at no cost. I have issue with the fading of the mud flaps. I have been trying to "Stain" them with a deluted black paint but that isn't working either. there are some new trim products out now I might try which literally will act like paint. I have heard that one must be careful with these because of potential build-up that can make it unsightly. I believe Duplicolor makes some of this trim paint. Not sure what the final color would look like (how black or gray). I do intend on trying it soon though. this would probably work well on the bumpers too but again don't know how well it will match the original color of those gray bumpers. Making those bumpers more black problably wouldn't hurt though either.Hat

Is the bumper problem a TSB or anything? If I were to end up painting them does anyone know what a good price is for that?

A problem with the mud flaps?!?!?!?

Cheering Thanks Brant for telling about Meguiars ColorX. I have an Electric Blue that has so many swirl marks. It has three coats of wax- maybe that is the problem. I am anxious to try it. I used Back to Black on my pillar posts by mistake and found that to only be for flat black, not shiny. Wax works best on them for me. I love their Chrome Polish. Mickey Wave

About the colorx ..... I use this and found that it works pretty well ( like it says fine startched and swirl marks) but after work tonight I buffed my roof and then reapplied the colorx and the roof is smooth as glass. What I did find out from useing this was that I have a LOT more paint improfections than I thought so I have to take the good with the not so good Wink

I believe the bumper is a TSB. I just know the dealer took care of it at no cost. at the time the car was still under factory warranty so i don't know if that was free factor or not.

Mud flap problem? I'd say, due to the amount of fading I see. I'll fix it though one way or another.

Re: [BsTeaser] Car Care Products ..... Can't Post

I've used PlastX more times than I can count and always had great results with it. The only time it wouldn't get through everything was on a set of Jeep Cherokee headlights that had been abused and neglected for years. We ended up wet sanding them and then polishing with Meguiar's M80 using a wool pad on a rotary buffer. They looked great when finished and it saved the owner several hundred dollars on new headlights. As someone who details cars for a living I'm a bit surprised you weren't able to get results with PlastX or that you're not going to attempt a more aggressive approach before buying new headlights. Seriously, if the lights are so far gone that you think they need replacing, why not experiment with them a bit? You've got nothing to lose, right? Get some 2000 grit paper, let it soak over night and have at 'em. Get a decent polish and work it in with a rotary - taping off the surrounding body panels so as not to damage anything - and you should be good to go.

ColorX is great stuff for quick touchups on paint that's fairly easy to correct. The immediate step up from that is M66 from Meguiar's Professional Line - it's sort of like ColorX on steroids and is a great all in one cleaner/polish/wax. You really should get your hands on some M80 though - I used it on a black Shelby Cobra and a red (of course) Ferrari 360 Modena last week and ended up with flawless finishes on both cars where both had been full of swirls and scratches. Good stuff.

As for the tape marks on the bumpers - I have yet to see anything that truly corrects the problem other than replacing or painting them. A good body shop should be able to paint them to match the rest of the car for around $200~$400 per bumper cover depending on where you're located, how good the shop is, etc.
