Car Vandalizing Can't Post

I just read the post about member's PTs being keyed or vandalized and I have a couple of questions.
Let's be real answering them, and it will be interesting to see how it turns out. Marc, I'll be interested in your viewpoint, along with Doppel as the counterpoint. OK, here goes.
1. What action (or lack of action) would you take if you caught someone vandalizing your PT? What could you do?
2. What action (or lack of action) would you take if you found someone vandalizing another PT?
I know we are very emotionally involved with our PTs, but I wonder how sensible we will be when something like this happens and we can do something about it. (or not)

Bubba, where are you when we need you?

Let the debate begin. . .

1. What action would I take if I caught someone vandalizing my PT? What could I do?

There are many different scenerios here. If I come across someone in the process of vandalizing my Cruiser, and if the person was alone, I would charge at him full speed knocking him down to the ground and knock him on conscious. I would then call the cops. While waiting for the cops to get there, I would probably give him a few punches to his face yo make sure he stays on conscious. Bugger deserves it.

If I came across two or more vandals, I would call the cops on my cell, stay back and not be noticed, then when they are done, follow them and keep the cops informed. If they go home, the better. Now I know where they live and so will the cops. If they don't go home, i will follow them till they split, and when they do, that's when I'll grab one and proceed to do to them as I did in the first scenerio and wiat for the law to get there.

2. What action (or lack of action) would you take if you found someone vandalizing another PT?

Any other car for that matter, I would yell at them really loud, and get other people involved to try to catch one of them and hand him off to the cops. I would also call the cops on my cell.

This might be harsh but, so are their actions. They would think twice about doing such a thing again.

I would pobably try to detain them. Then call the police. And have them arrested for vandalism. Then sue them for the damages.

As far as someone elses. I would probably try to detain them untill the owner go there.

Today's world thats really all you could do without getting sued yourself!

I'd just stop the keying - yell, let them see I'm using my cell phone or something that looks alot like it, but I'd stay well away - I just want them to stop and leave. It isn't worth dying for, or facing an assault charge for - stay safe and smart out there, cruzers !!

if it was a male I would perform a testicle-ectomy, (with my right boot) its similar to a drop-kick in rugby, but the balls get kicked over the posts!

if it were a female I think a mamogram everyday for a year would surfice!

You know what I would want to do and most of you would too, but realisitically, I would get their license plate number first if they have a vehicle themselves. If they did not have a car, I would recruit witnesses asap and get a clear description of each of the perps. As much as we would like to take physical action, that is not the course I would take due to lawsuits and such. After procuring several witnesses, I would approach the vandals after having called the police first. If they run off, I would attempt to follow and see where they go (hopefully home) and get their address.

You are dealing with a mentally ill person. Such a person is unpredictable and may be armed. Best to stop the damage to your PT by shouting to scare off the individual. The courts would take a dim view of you pulling a Rambo on someone for a "mere" scratch, dent, etc. The judge would not see the PT as you do and bodily harm would weigh heavily against you. Look how homeowners have been sued and lost because someone burglarizing their home was injured in the process. No, the courts defend the criminals and God help you if you injure one of them.

That being said, I would come up behind the person and either choke or knock him out. I would then carefully place him behind my PT, get in my PT, back up and drive off.

thats easy. after he takes a swing at me, i will proceed to put all those years of martial arts training to some good use. then call the cops and press charges. he can't do jack to me cos i was only defending myself. who are the cops going to believe? any more then 2 and i don't confront them, just call the cops. i have had several cars vandalized over the years, but was never lucky enough to see the perp. so i have some frustrations built up. there are 364 pressure points on the human body, it's amazing how painful some of them can be.

I think that the ONLY reason Doppel could get away with kicking the ish out of the person is because of his age... He wont face any type of REAL punishment and would probably be released to his parents.

I on the other hand have 2 children, house, school, car, and bill payments to make and as the sole source of income for my family CANNOT afford to "touch" the individual.

Like others have said I would get in the car and follow them whilst on my cell phone with the cops. If I can follow them to their home UNDETECTED (not really possible in a Cruiser, plus the fact that they are going to be jacked up by the rush they recieved from their stupid act) I would wait in the darkness until I verify that it is the persons house and not a friends.

When the police get there and fill out the reports I will surely get all the info I need to make the remainder of their life hell.

DONT CONFRONT THE A-HOLE> Consequences arent worth it unless you are 16 years or younger.

This is long, so beware...
Shooting from the hip, is a lose-lose. One summer midnight in '98, while walking my dogs in the woods across from my house... I caught a carload of Youts smashing my mailbox. One jumped from the car and whacked it off the post with a #32 Louisville Slugger. I ran in, grabbed the keys and cell and took off after them. Caught up to them when they _smartly_ pulled over up the road to allow one of my neighbors kids out of their car (one ID'd). The entire time I had the most dastardly grin! Gawd, I felt tremendous. I relayed the plate to a cop who gave me their address in the neighboring town. The cop was at the door of their home as I pulled into their driveway. To make a very dull but interesting story short. Recalling my adolescense, no charges were filed., the dad and mom were MUCH harsher than any judge, we got a new mailbox and these kids learned a valuable lesson in humility without a tainted record for life.
Now, I realize a $20 item cant compare to a $20k item. And had it been the Harley or Crooza, I likely may have transformed into Fatboy Segal for a moment in time. Food for thought. Cheers

Ed and Bennybone have the right idea.

As much as I would love to pound the offender into submission, I would far rather see them in jail than me.

Dopp may be a minor, but he is old enough to be tried as an adult. He needs to be aware of that.

The only thing I would add to what Ed and Bennybone have said is that I would try to get at least one other person to witness the offence, otherwise it is just your word against the "alleged" offender's word.

Yes my vehicles have been egged, keyed, kicked and otherwise vandalized - I fully expect that our PT will have to endure the same. It is truly unfortunate that you cannot have anything that is *nice* nowadays without someone else trying to ruin it for you...

Had an interesting conversation with Dean at the Donut Derelicks meet when he showed me a large scratch over the rear wheel area of his "cool" Inferno. We had been talking about putting flames on my future silver PT and my concern over chips, dings and dents. I appreciated his view that many things are unavoidable. Don't let the possibility of problems keep you from enjoying your PT. If something happens just get it fixed and enjoy.

Uncaring people or carts in shopping malls can do considerable damage. A rock thrown by a tire in front of you or a wayward golfball (hit an inch above my driver's side window and left an inch dent but thankfully missed me) can happen at anytime. The chances of being keyed are far less. What makes this hurt so much is the intentional viciousness of the act. Don't let a despictable act cause you to do something you wish you hadn't. Remember those days in school when the person who starts it almost never gets punished, but boy did I get it when I hit him back.

As a retired MN Police Officer with 24 yrs. on the job, I advise you to call your PD as soon as possible explaining exactly what is happening, get as good a description as you can, and try to keep the bad guy(s) in sight for as long as you can.
In our 'Criminal Justice' system, property crimes are considered relatively minor, wrongfully in my opinion, but that is the way it is. With more than a verbal confrontation on your part, you can face much stronger sanctions than the perp.
With that said, the old saying 'Do as I say, not as I do..' may come into play if I caught someone mess'n with my PT.

Situation #1: Shoot them.

Situation #2: Run them over with MY Cruiser.

As for englishman's testicle suggestion, I like it! (And being a Veterinary Technician, I DO know how to perform castrations!!)

Honestly, I'd probably chase them down if I could catch them. (Since you KNOW they're not going to hang out for a Meet'n'Greet.) Yell at some poor sot to call the cops and if I couldn't snag them, get a damn good description and possibly a plate number if they're dumb enough to hop in a car!

Very simple, blow the dude away and drive off.

That's what I would like to do but then I wouldn't be allowed to go cruising again. There absolutely is no justice.

I won't drive "Ruby" to work because we have had several vehicles keyed in the parking lot. A few years back, two older guys had an issue (work related) with a younger coworker. They actually stalked him for a couple of weeks to try to intimadate him. Finally they (we suspect) scratched up and sliced the windows on his Jeep. (they left evidence that led to them)
It may have been a coincidence, but a couple of days later, someone took a shotgun and blew ALL of the windows out of one of the guys cars. Another coincidence? The harrassment stopped!
Not the best solution, but effective.

Judgement Day. In Texas that day is your 17th birthday. Officers love judgement day. After two or more years of writing juveniles tickets while smiling, you can finally book him or her on the warrants. Yes the judge will usually let them out on their promise to pay, but when they don't pay, then you get to arrest them again.

The point is... don't get so upset at what you see. The speeder that gets by with speeding in your neighborhood will get caught on the freeway. The speeder will get a ticket and his insurance gets a shot at his rates.

The little monsters will get theirs and some will learn and some won't.

Well... you can always get even, if you have a good description and a big key. ( just kidding)
