Chrome Grill Strips?
|
Can't Post
|

Hello everyone! I've been wanting to join this forum ever since I got my PT back in January, but money's been tight and I finally got an open paycheck lol. I've always loved the PT styling, just never thought I'd get to own one. Now I'm the proud owner of an 03 infernal red limited. Red and Black are my favorite colors so I'm going to stay with those colors in my very, very cheap and affordable mods lol. I've already installed black vent visors (a must on any vehicle I own). I'm wanting do something I haven't seen done yet, (probably has but I haven't seen it yet) for my own individuality. I purchased black grill off of Ebay so that the chrome stips on the grill would stand out better. I thought it would be a unique look especially if I put a black bug guard on the hood. I also purchased some chrome strips off ebay, but was dissapointed to find out they were nothing more than flexable chrome trim just cut to lenght. Does anybody make a chrome hard plastic or metal strip that can be attached to the grill instead of the one's I purchased that I'll probably end up putting on crooked? Hope someone can help me! Thanks ----------

Don't think anyone makes hard plastic or metal grill strips for the PT. Actually, I used to have the flexible chrome strips on my PT grill (bought the grill kit from Moss Motors when they still sold PT stuff)and they are quite durable and if you take your time not at all hard to line up properly. You could get a entire chromed plastic grill, several places sell them. I swapped my grill for a billet one a couple of years ago but that's kind of pricey. ----------

Hi and welcome to the PTCC.You can buy flexchrome from www.ptboutique.com in varying widths and lengths for very little money. My idea would be to buy a few long lengths of it,measure the cross sections of your front grille, cut the lengths using a regular razor blade to match the measured lengths.and apply to said areas by removing the 3-m tape cover and pressing. You could also use a 3-m tape adhesive promoter pen to help with adhesion. God Bless...........Mike http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ADHESIVE-Promoter-for-Real-Carbon-Fiber-Wood-Dash-Trim_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ40017QQihZ002QQi temZ120116767584QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... Hey thanks guys! Couldn't wait to join this site. Had a rainy day today so I went ahead and put on the strips I got off ebay. I'm really impressed with how good they look on the black grill. I even had time to switch out the red one and put the finished black grill on. I just love it! As soon as I get it washed, I'll take some pics and post them here. ----------

Glad to hear your Grill Strips worked out OK. You might want to check out ptdoityourself.net for ideas on some other low cost mods. Membership is $17.50 per year but often you can save more than that on one "do it yourself" modification. ----------

Glad to be of some help. The ptdoityourself.net is a good resource on pretty much anything dealing with PTs. Some complained about the membership fee to join but I still think it's well worth it. ----------

I don't know about the earlier model PTs, but my 2006 is the base model, and the grille already has the chrome strips. I've had other PT owners ask me where I got them and disbelieve when i told them they were factory. If it is the same for the earlier models, you might check the auto yards, or ask the dealer about a grille for the same year, base model... I still don't get why the base model has the chrome grille, and the limited, gt, etc, have the body color grilles. You might think it would be the other way around. ----------

Chrysler put the chrome on all 2006 models. Gues they could afford it as they deleted the rest of the grill. meaning the 06 and on does not have the lower portion anymore. I have seen some nice aftermarket options for the lower section of the 06 grille though, kinda nice. ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.

Quote: Chrysler put the chrome on all 2006 models.
That is not entirely true. None of the 2006 Route 66 have chrome strips. However, all non-special edition 2006 models do. Here's s snapshot of my Route 66: http://www.halfevil.de/...-07-20--22.33.15.jpg ---------- Greetings from good ol' Europe, Rainer

It is true, all standard 06 models have chrome. Very odd they delete it from the SE 66's...why is yours black? Thought they were yellow. ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.
