The answer is yes it can and I know of a person who is selling them new with the 80 watt amplifier. He sells them on EBay but also sells privately for 150 dollars and 10 dollars in shipping. His name is Cass Daniels and his email address is www.cassdaniels@comcast.net Please mention the year of your PT so he can send the appropriate factory wiring harness and tell him you got the information from Mike Casabianca and mention this car club rate.I got my initial subwoofer from him and after the instillation it took Ginny 3 minutes to ask "Me Too PLEASSSSSEEEEE.For reference when sold by Mopar they cost 469 dollars with the 50 watt amplifier. It cost me 150 for the sub and 150 for instillation. If you are not knowledgeable to put it in yourself you can bring it to any audio outlet as the wiring harness and diagrams are included.....Rock On Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... nhpt & Mike, If this thing is a true plug and play type thing I think I should be able to install it. So, does it hook up directly to the radio? and if so does it matter what radio the PT has? or is it more complecated than that? I have a top notch car stereo place here in town that I would trust in a minute to do an install but if I can save between $150-$190 that would be great too. Anyone have a picture of this unit? does it ALL go into the storage slot in the left rear? Thanks! Rick ----------

Hi again P.B.Here is the listing that Cass has up on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/20 01-07-PT-Cruiser-80-WATT-8-Subwoofer-by-Mopar-8162_W0QQitemZ150121859308QQihZ005QQcategoryZ50568QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem .As you can see it fits directly into the map compartment and has the grate to close it off.The unit is self contained and designed to go directly into that spot and sounds great. This subwoofer is an improvement over the original design because the first came with a 50 watt amplifier and his comes with the 80 watt amplifier. Please remember that this is his direct email and mention that you are buying it at the club rate of 150 dollars, the year of your cruiser, and whether you have the factory or an aftermarket stereo system. As far as the installation goes,I know absolutely nothing in regards to such matters and I am blessed to know the shop that does all the installations for themselves and any of the new car dealers on a courtesy basis. They told me that they would charge the dealership the same fee of 150 dollars and the dealership would charge for 5 hrs of shop labor @ 97.50/hr.In any eventuality with the PTCC club rate I secured from Cass when I first found him@ 150 dollars, even if you pay experts the full fee for the install, you are comming way under the 485 retail price of the subwoofer alone and just a little over his buy it now price of 295 dollars.I have mine hooked up to the factory head unit and am very pleased with the results.Chrysler audio products are made by Infinity Audio so you are starting out with good stuff to begin with........Rock on .........Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... P B I looked at the instructions and none of it seemed to be very difficult to do. They were very well layed out step by step and good pictures. If you have done any kind of radio or speaker install experience this should be pretty easy.I just didn't feel comfortable taking my PT a part. Probably the hardest part of it all is getting the wire from the Sub at one end of the car to the radio at the other end. That's why I a had a local stereo place do mine. Here is picture of it installed ---------- Greg nhcruzer "Live in the Moment" NEPTCC 06 Limited Turbo Dual Exhaust Cold air intatake Inferno undercar lighting AR Casino Chrome rims

I bought one of these subwoofers from Cass Daniels, as did a fellow named boston dave...we both have 2001 model PT's and are having all sorts of dramas with the subwoofers/amp..... Both of us are experiencing audio or power drop out when activating, indicators, brake, power windows and the like.....I live in Aust and Dave in the US, it just seems odd we both have the same identical problem.... Is anyone able to assist us both as to the wiring pinouts on the sub.....we both have had constant contact with Cass but our problem is still to be fixed....the radios are standard etc..... I am getting the feeling that there may be some compatability issue with the 2001 models compared to the 2002 and above....it anyone has a 2001 PT with these 80 watt subs/amp would they please advise if they are using the supplied harness and/or how the thing is wired......for now I have the sub disconnected and the radio works perfectly fine... ----------

Mike, When you have the sub woofer hooked up, do you have seperate control of it verses the other speakers? e.g. Can you turn down the sub without turning down the bass of the other speakers? The subs I have now are hooked up through "high level inputs" which does not allow me to turn down/up the subs without turning down the bass of the speakers. I have to mess with the treble/bass a bunch to get the sound I want, so it would be great to have the extra control. Thanks, Ray ----------

The is no separate control to alter the input of the subwwofer.I vary bass amount by increasing or decreasing the bass level of the stereo unit and volume by adjusting the volume control.I would ask a installer if there is a way to add a separate control independent of the head unit. All in all I really do not have to adjust the bass /treble controls very much to get good sound.Hope I helped ........Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on...... We had the sub installed last week, it is aussome!!!!!!!!!! my local car stereo place said I got a super deal @150.!! They held up to their end of the bargain @the higher end @75. for the install, though they said they really should have charged more, it sounds great, and looks good too, instead of the empty storage pocket! ----------
