Chrysler 'black blob' to replace PT Cruiser.
Chrysler toughens up next generation PT Cruiser.
Sometimes the disguise is so heavy, we can only speculate that there's a new car lurking underneath.
Drive's spy photographer claims this is a scoop photo of the redesigned Chrysler PT Cruiser, well ahead of its scheduled 2008/9 launch. Word is Chrysler's moving towards a crossover styling and execution for the funky hatchback. Though, with all the cladding on this prototype vehicle caught testing in a snowy corner of the USA, we can only take their word for it.

That's not a next gen PT, it is the Dodge version which might be known as the Crew. The new PT will share that platform but the sheet metal will be significantly different.

I'm sure they can cover a lot under the covers and even make it look a lot different than it really is, but that is ugly! Well, at least I won't feel so "bad" about buying a 2007 after the infamous "redesign." 
Hopefully, if there is a PT version of that, it is much different and more like the PT we all love.

Since I am not buying a 2008.. Reckon I dont care what the new PT looks like.
Actually the sooner they change them to Generic snoozers  that look like everything else on the road now, the faster the fleeting Retro uniqueness of the PT will return.

I think I'm going to be sick. Please say it isnt so. Its like they brought over a politician to design what they think people want. That has to be the worst thing they can put out. It like they say on american idol, "theres no wow factor" It looks close to everything else.

I am seeing two rumors.
One the Cruiser will be replaced with a crossover based on the Dodge JC49, that the one in the above pics. It may not even be called the PT Cruiser.
Two it will be based on the new Chrysler small car that is used by Dodge and Jeep. But most likely will not be retro.

Also a rumor they will keep making the same PT Cruiser design till 2009 or 2010 and then discontinue it or replace it.

Artist's rendition of what the JZ49(Chrysler version) might look like. At least it looks better then the photo shops that are sure to follow.
In other Chrysler(but PT unrelated) news, I saw a Chrysler 300 Touring Wagon today. Kind of odd considering that they are only sold in Europe. More then likely it was a Dodge Magnum with the 300 bits added on.

Well, I guess the artist rendition is a tad better than the camouflaged black thingie. But to me, it looks like a, um, "bustardized" Caliber---we've got a black caliber sitting next to my 06 PT.......all it's missing is the Chrysler emblem and to me, it sure resembles out black Caliber.

This is what all the spies are saying.
I can understand if they would want to improve on a good thing, but to redesign it and call it good...no thanks. I think they could try a cross between the '05 and the '06 styling cues inside and out and offer the V6 and all wheel drive. To give us something that looks like everything else the others are making to try to catch up is plainly lame.

Sheesh, after looking at that thing, we are all going to be saving our pennies and buying lottery tickets so we can become like Jay Leno and have stables full of cars--all PT's of course. Actually after having ours for two weeks now, can see why some neighbours have multiple PT's in the family.

Hi Clive, I agree with you. I need that lottery so i can buy a PT in every color to go with my outfit. I have been having so much fun buying little things for mine, got to save some up for the big things. I have had mine a month and never enjoyed anything as much in my life.
