Convertible speaker replacement

Hi, I have a 2005 PT GT Convertible, and am about to swap out the factory speakers in all locations. I was wondering if any other owner here has done this and has any hints/tips for the install. How hard is it to get at the rear speaker location? As far as the tweeters go, do you just pull off the A-pillars and are there two screws on the side of the dash, then lift off? Thanks for any info. ----------

I'm looking for the same information. I just purchased new front and rear speakers for my cruiser from crutchfield and they had photos detailing the front speaker installation but not the rear. Does anyone have any instructions on how to do this? ----------

Alright, I managed to get the fronts and dash tweeters done. I replaced them with Kicker 6.2 components, and let me tell you the sound improvement was very noticeable. I am using a Pioneer DEH-770MP head unit, with a Pioneer GEX-P920 XM tuner, as well as two Rockford Punch 10 inch subs, and a Rockford P301 Mono amp. My Cool Vanilla, convertible PT GT is bumpin now. The doors were pretty straight forward, pull off the triangular cover behind the side mirror, then remove the one screw in the door latch, and the two bolts under the arm rest. Then pry off the door start at the top near the mirror and work your way around clockwise, then pull up and away. You need to unhook the power door lock mechanism plug and door release, then the door is off. As far as the removing the dash cover, my SRT4 was way easier. In the convertible the A-pillar is one long piece that is L shaped and goes up the side and then bends across the top of the windshield. It seems as though it is two pieces with a seam, but I wouldn't try and pull it apart. What I did was remove both sun visors, and their clips (just three screws each, and unhook the plugs for the vanity light, homelink). Then the A-pillar just pulls off. You then need to remove the HVAC bezel (if you did your head unit you will know how to do this) Pull off the 4 control knobs, then pull off the power window switch, the one screw holding the bezel is behind. Pull off the bezel and then you will see the two screws holding on the dash cover, remove them and then just pull the cover up and toward you. I hope this info helps anyone wanting to do this install themselves. If I forgot anything, someone can correct me. I don't think I will do my rear 6X9's as I have plenty of bass with the subs in my trunk and my sound staging now sounds great with the component set up front, the rear speakers are just fill now. It seems as though removing the rear interior seems like a real b*tch anyways (pulling seats, etc...) doesn't seem worth it if you have subs. My two cents.

Hey there, the back seats come out no problemo in the nilla vert. I asked for a complete stereo overhaul for my 40th birthday so I am hoping I won't have anything to tussle with and get the sound needed in my drop top! Love this color on the PT. I am liking this Clarion unit which fills up the entire stock face are in the PT. It also burns the cd to an internal drive on the unit. This will eliminate the need to keeps cd's all over the car. ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.

Did you end up cutting the sides of the opening to fit the head unit? Any pictures? ----------
