Cost or replacing a convertible top Can't Post

Rats. I was driving about 25 mph on a residential street with the top down, the boot not installed and I noticed monofiloment (fishing) line appearing from out of nowhere getting tangled on both sides of the car. I pulled over to see what was going on. It was stuck on several spots, including the crease on the side of the folded top where the monofiloment line cut about and inch and a half into the side of the top. Talk about a freak deal!

I could imagine what would have happened if that line got caught around my neck Smile ...rolling down the street.

I'm going to see my friendly GEICO gecko man next week to get an assessment and direction.

Does anyone know what it typically costs to get one of these tops replaced? 2005 Black top.

I can post a photo of this nasty cut over the weekend - all the way to the steel cable - like all the way to the bone.

Can it be repaired. ? When my top was replaced the top cost the dealer $400.00 to put it on. As far as I know the dealer is the only one who has a new one. Unless you can get one custom made.

Here is what happened to the top...
Each time I lower and raise the top, the gap gets a little bigger.
A dealer informed me "the part" runs about $2,200.

Take it to one of those places that make tops for boats. They surely can fix that before it gets worse. Or maybe , living in Florida , a sail shop might help.

I have an appointment with the GEICO guy on Wednesday. I'll let you know what he says. A repair will probably be about the cost of my deductible.

The insurance company-recommended top shop said this cannot be repaired. The non-Chrysler sourced replacement top costs about $1,400. Installation is about $600. They claim the top will be identical.

I know that if I had to pay for a new top I'd have to make some changes in it. Like having it the same color as the PT. My Convert. is Marine Blue So something in a medium to dark blue.
