Cover for the covertible top. Can't Post

I ordered a top cover from a California company for my 06 Convertible. They shipped and when I tried to put it on my convertible it wouldn't fit. It's for an 05 not an 06. I didn't know there was a differance and niither did they ,So I returned it and got a refund. It seems that they don't make a top cover for a 06 PT Convertible just an 05. Befiore you ask, I don't know what the differance is.

The 06 top is probably thicker, since they added a layer or two to it for sound insulation. This must be just enough to make the difference.

Jim,

The thing I learned with our vert cover is that you can't lower the top all of the way. You need to leave it up a little so that you can tuck that lip between the bottom of the top and the lip trim around the top of the car. Once that lip is in, lower it all of the way, shove the cover's side "lips" under the roof, and then button it up. If you tried to put it on without doing that it would indeed seem to be too snug to put on. Unfortunately mine didn't come with instructions and my dealership was clueless on how to do it. It was all trial and error. Alternately, maybe the 06 is a different size. Smile

The extra insulation is the same on the '05 & '06. or I should say at least on my '05 DC4, and a buddie of mine bought a boot for a '05 from ebay for his '06, & it fits just fine, we compaired tops & covers before he bought his and we both have the same thicknes tops except my DC4 has more of a fabric look & feel as compaired to his GT top.

The procedure you are describing is the one my salesman showed me the day I got my convertible. If he hadn't, I'd probably still be trying to put the cover on.

Jim,

If you want to try Wendy's cover before you repurchase to see if the 05s fit, which they should, we'd be glad to help. I'll be out of town the early part of next week, but near the end of the week we could hook up. I live a few miles up the PA side of 95.

I think the '06 must have been redesigned in this area. I test drove one and did this. You simply raise the top until it settles on the windsheild frame, pull it down with the single handle, then turn to lock it in place. Then, the windows can all be raised (or lowered) at once with the push of one button. Works great!

One of you is talking about lowering the top and installing the "Boot" cover in the rear & the other is talking about raisng the top itself and locking it down in the front, all PT convertibles are the same as far as the top and the cover "Boot" some of the boots are tighter than others due to not being used much, but yes it will seat easier if you stop lowering the top about 1 or 2 inches from the fully retracted position, intall the Boot cover and then lower it and lock in the boot. unless they have changed the window controls for '06, the windows all go down with the top if you use the second detent on the roof switch, if you use the first detent then the top will go down and the windows will stay up to keep the wind out of your face, then after you put the top back up you need to put the windows up using all 4 window switches.

What your talking about is the boot ,I'm talking about a cover made just for the top. It looks like the top half of a car cover with a couple of straps to hold it down.
