Hello all, Just got a new 2006 Limited PT Cruiser with 2 miles on it. I have had it for about 3 weeks and went to get in it to go to work 2 days ago and it would not start. Had to have it towed to the dealer and today they called to say they found the problem. It has a broken pin on the crank shaft. Has anyone experience this problem at all? I am hoping that it is not the start of me buying a lemon. I really was enjoying the car and was very surprised this happened. I am just wondering if this is a common occurrence with the PT Cruiser or if anyone else had this hapen. I have a full warranty so not too concerned at this point. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks! ----------

Not sure where the pin would be or if it is a shear pin. But I haven't heard anything like this. I have an 04 PT with almost 100,000 miles and my wife's 07 has about 5,000 miles on it. We haven't had a problem like that at all. I took my old Stratus with the same engine to 220,000 miles as well. I doubt that you have a lemon. As long as the dealer does their job you should be fine. Besides, you have the lifetime powertrain warranty don't you? That covered 06's and up purchased by the first owner after July 2007. Sounds like you qualify, ----------

Sounds like they didn't complete the sentence. I believe they are talking about the Crankshaft positioning sensor. And no, sounds like a freak failure. ----------

I have been in the auto service business for over 50 years. I have never heard of a crankshaft pin. Pehaps a key for a pully? ----------
