Creaking Noise

It's been a while since I've been on this forum. Here's my question. Whenever I go over a bump I hear a creaking noise from the right front. Is it just a creaky spring or something more serious? Thanks. ----------

On my wife's '04 it was the front sway bar end links that made the creaking sound. Her car sounded old and terrible. Replaced the end links and all is well. ---------- 2005 Stone White SRT4 2004 Graphite Auto

Could be lower control arm bushings. ----------

I don't know bluephrog... I don't think bad control arm bushings make a "creeking" sound... it's more of a "clanking" sound My vote's with mean green on this one. I see sway bar bushings (either ends or even dried up sway bar to chassis ones) as the more likely "creekers." But it's always a good thing to check those control arm bushings on the PTs - especially those on the rear of the control arms... they might be bad anyway... ---------- 2001 silver Limited-Touring (leather/suede, 4W disk, traction, heated mirrors & all :-) Mods: Tokico HP all around / Energy Suspension Master Kit / K&N drop-in / R1 Concepts drilled & slotte disks all around / Enkei RPF1 16x7 wheels & Conti Extreme Contact rubber / Prestige APS620 remote starter

Well, now that it warmed up, the sound has gone away. Earlier this week it was down in the upper 40's overnight. It was pretty creaky. Today, overnight it stayed in the 60's and got over 80 during the day. Not a sound. Does that help anymore? ----------

Mapple 430, unfortunately it's normal for any creaky stuff to creak more when it gets cold so that does not help much. I'd wait for it to creak again and then try using a can of WD40 to troubleshoot. When the noise starts, spray and saturate the right side swaybar end link and drive and see if there is any difference in the noise. If the no difference, do the same with the swaybar to body mounts and see if those are the problem. If those are OK, we'll take it from there.

Here are the pix. All the pix are from the right control arm (the big piece that the holds the control arm bushings and the swaybar end link attaches to). I have circled the various parts and labeled them with color coded text. All the red bushings you see are the Energy Suspension bushings which are non-OEM. If you have OEM bushings, they will all be black. Again, a likely cause of the creaking could be worn swaybar end link rubber bushings, which makes the swaybar rub against the end link bolt. Also check that rear control arm bushing for any tears - they go bad frequently. If it ends up being a control arm bushing that "creaks" I'd say the front one is more likely to "creak" - the rear ones "clank." These are the bushings bluephrog was talking about. I think somewhere on this forum there is a thread that has pix of what they look like when they are damaged. I'll post a link here if I find it.

No problem. I am also experiencing a "creak" from the front left. If it's the sway arm bushings would this be covered under the 36k warranty? Bout to take mine in before it expires and i want to make sure they fix everything covered. ----------

I got this fixed under warranty, they replaced the lower control arm on the left side. Some other stuff too. I was actually impressed that it went so smooth at the dealer. it was cool. ----------
