Cruise(r) Control downshift Can't Post

I just returned from the Hot Rod Power Tour from Albuquerque to home (Tucson). I experienced something never before with the cruise control engaged. While going downhill, the transmission downshifted (engine brake?) to maintain the set speed. Other vehicles simply went faster downhill. Why does the PT Cruiser do this?

Some new Chrysler Front Wheel Drive vehicles have this downshift feature with speed control engaged going downhill.
The Transmission Control module can initiate a downshift on these FWD models with a 41TE Transaxle.

The rear wheel drive Dodge trucks don't have this feature, so it is up to you to step on the brake if needed.
