Dopp, if that truck was $20,000 and had 488 cubic inches under the hood, your young college boy behind would be the first in line at the dealer the day they went on sale. It is obvious you'll never be another Brian Nesbitt. What are you taking at college? Basketweaving and mocassin making??

I'm sorry but that truck is just ugly. All trucks are ugly.. and the only people who buy them are rednecks. And when I have kids, I will not allow them to get a truck unless they own a construction company.

You're gonna have a lot of fun trying to move to your own apartment when you call your friend up and say "Hey redneck - bring that ugly truck of yours over and help me move to my new apartment!: Actually, I personally find a lot of beauty in a fine pick-up truck. I own one. I use it for a truck. Yet it is pretty enough to take it anywhere and it still draws the looks. It's also darned handy when it comes to brining home 60 panels of sheetrock and 5 gallons of mud for the attic renovation project I am in the middle of. Does doing my own remodeling mean that I am a redneck? Oh yeah and you said "And when I have kids, I will not allow them to get a truck unless they own a construction company." - How much control do YOUR parents have over your personal desires and tastes?

And how old are you? 8? That sure is how old you act! And did I say that I know everything? No. I know what my opinions are and I stick to them. Pimple cream? Ohh what an insult! I do not have acne problems, I wash my face every night and morning. I've been doing it for about two-three years and have never had acne. Why do I do it? Because my sister never washed her face when she was a teenager and had bad acne and had to take medication, so I decided to prevent it instead of getting it and then 'curing' it. And another thing, you must be really young (or just plain STUPID) to not know the difference between your and you're. [This message has been edited by Doppelganger (edited 12-30-2000).]

Hey now guys, lets not get to carried away here. We were all 16 once. It was only 14 years ago for me. Yes I remember having little choice in what I could or could not drive. My choice for first car-A 1982 Pontiac 1000(Just a redressed Chevette),or a 1981 Buick Skylark. I being a rather practical teenager chose the Skylark, you could haul more friends in it and it was in much better shape. That was agood little car. It got me cross country, saw me through my Air Force years...good little car. Doppleganger,I was not trying to insult you, just figure out your age. Consider yourself lucky(which I am sure you do)to be able to drive a NEW car at your age. Of course you probably don't want to know the kind of thoughts that go through my head when I see kids from my local highschools driving new cars..LOL. The worst is this kid from one of our highschools. He drives a BMW Z3...now if that is not way off base, can't think of what would be. How are kids to learn responsibility when they have a $36,000.00 Sport Coupe handed to them...sheesh. InfernoRed [This message has been edited by InfernoRed (edited 12-30-2000).]

Hey - let's lay off of Doppleganger here. I know I took the first jab but that doesn't mean we need to go in for the kill! Dopple is a good guy and sometimes he, like many of us, doesn't engage his brain before putting his mouth (fingers) in gear. I took exception to the truck comment and basically that was it. Not a big deal. BTW, the color on that truck is called Candy Tangerine and is one of my favorite colors - although the Warden won't hear of me having ANYTHING painted orange (or anything remotely close). Sort of like Dopple's folks controlling what he drives!

Wow, how much more childish can you get!?! And what an original comeback, I've never heard that one before! quote: Originally posted by InfernoRed: Hey now guys, lets not get to carried away here. Your post did not insult me at all... and yes I am very lucky to have such a nice car and to have such nice parents. If you think that Z3 is ridiculous, my god, you should check out the school I go to.. it's terrible. I don't see a problem with parents buying their kids $20,000 cars, but some people there drive $50k+ cars! I mean, sure, I would like a $50k+ car, but that is asking for way too much.

Hey, big talker, since you were so quick to point out the your/you're slip-up, I feel compelled to tell you that the correct spelling is convertible. Also, since you brought up having opinions and sticking to them, I cannot think af any scenario where it is in the child's best interest to have their parents buy their first vehicle lock, stock, and barrell. Material items should be earned to be properly appreciated.

Yeah, I couldn't remember if it had an i or an a in it, but really didn't feel like checking. And as long as we're pointing out errors, you spelt barrel wrong and mistyped of. And it is not my first car; my first car was a rusted '85 Mercedes-Benz 300SD (turbo diesel). Boy was that thing slow... took like 30 seconds to get to 60MPH while going down hill
I'm not too familiar with the term "lock, stock, and barrel" but I can assure you I did earn the car by bringing my grades up and I do appreciate it. I don't know where you got the idea that I don't.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree that a child's car should not be handed to them, but should be earned, and by earned, I don't mean by getting good grades. When I was a freshman in high school, I got my first real job working every day after school. I saved up enough money to buy my first car when I was 15, without any financial help from my parents. I think it helped me to learn responsibility and to repect the value of my possesions and where the money comes from. I sometimes voluntarily help out teaching the marching band where I went to school and being around those high school kids just amazes me sometimes. Most of them have no respect for money because everything is just handed to them on a silver platter. Most of them have cell phones that their parents pay for, credit cards that their parents pay for, and new cars that their parents bought for them. How is that teaching them anything about the real world. I was lucky enough to have parents that wanted me to learn about how things worked in the real world. If I wanted something (other than food, clothes, etc.), I had to buy it myself. I learned about the value of a dollar and I moved out of my parents house by buying my first house at the age of 24. And it's not a sh**hole either. It's a three bedroom house in a great neighborhood. I'm sorry, Dopp, but I just don't think bringing up your grades counts as "earning" a $20,000 car. Either way, you've got a really cool car, and I hope you don't take this TOO personally. I didn't mean for this to be directed at you specifically, but to teenagers in general. You should thank your parents every single day for taking such extremly good care of you by providing you with everything you need and more. ------------------ Scott Shale Green 28F Ordered: 8/28/2000 Build date: 11/9/2000 KZM: 11/11/2000 12/2/2000: CRUISIN'!!!!!

I have many theories on what is being said here, and if I put them all to words, I would waste up all the available bandwidth on PTCC When I was 17, which was only 8 years ago, yes..I got spoiled..but, getting spoiled with a car I feel is overboard. And, this isnt directed towards Dopp, this is directed towards anyone who lives home and gets expensive things handed to them. My parents are very financially secure, and when I was younger, they spoiled me yes, with little things, well ..alot of little things. But, even tho they were able to afford it, they refused to buy me a new car. Their theory was that I can't be handed every little thing I want because then I cant appreciate the value of the $ when I get older. Back then, I thought that was poo poo, but now that I look back, i'm happy I had to save up my money. It teaches you the value of the dollar, and that everytime your little heart wants something, you dont always get it. Plus, you get a better feeling knowing that YOU bought the car with your own hard earned money. I drive around in my PT now, and this is my first car, and yeah ..it kills me to get that $380 a month car payment, but at the same token, it feels good to know that,.. when I drive my PT, it's all mine. I EARNED it. When I pick up chicks..hehe..I would feel like a shmuck telling them that my mom and dad bought it. Just would make me seem immature. I'm not one to give an opinion on another parent, but ..I dont feel "good grades" justifies buying a son a new car, because then the son or daughter (not pointing fingers towards anyone) will think it's ok to ask for anything, then get it. I feel ..if you are spoiled, thats just plain immature and you need to get up, get a job, earn money, appreciate the dollar and not depend on anyone else to buy things for yourselves. Hell, i'd be embarrassed to take a 23k gift from my parents!. Just my 2 cents! -------------- 25/M/NY Cranberry Loaded K&N MB Quarts Doors/Pillars Kenwood CD Deck Kennwood 10 Disk 3 Kenwood Amps 12" Kicker Comp
