Double Din Radio in Dash been Done??
|
Can't Post

I have a double din Kenwood dvd / navigation radio from my previous car that I would LOVE to get installed into my PT, but I know right off the bat that the opening in the trim piece is too small. I was on a Jeep Liberty site last week and if I'm not mistaken they have the same size opening and even the same stock radios as the Cruiser? Someone on the Libery forum said a Best Buy installed comfirmed that the radio could actually fit in the dash opening, but the trim would obviously need to be modified. So I wanted to see if anyone had done this or a similar install on their Cruiser?? I really don't want to have to give up my dvd and navigation radio to my wife just because it won't "fit". So come on guys.... help me out!! ----------

That kit only works for the 06 and 07's with the navigation radio. I went to edmunds.com and looked at the interior pictures of the radio and it looks like even the regular radio is a double din, but it has the two cut outs on the sides for the large knobs. I guess I won't find out for sure until I remove the trim from the dash and see what kind of space I have back there. Hopefully the opening behind the trim is big enough for the radio to fit and its just a matter of trimming the plastic around the radio to reinstall the trim. If anybody has done this already, pictures would be fantastic! ----------

Sorry I can't help you with your problem. But I just wanted to clear up something: The standard radio on the 06/07 PTC is a DIN and a half, not a double DIN. The optional navigation radio has a different bezel made to fit double DIN radios. Just an FYI so someone doesn't buy a double DIN for their 06/07 standard radio bezel and expect it to fit. Good luck with your radio! -Ray ----------
