Double din? Can't Post

Hello,
Is my 2006 convertible radio considered 2din? looks a little smaller? Trying to find the right gps for it.

Thanks,
Joe

Re: [destroyer4] Double din? Can't Post

Nope, it's 1.5 DIN... piss me off, cuz I've been looking at a couple 2 DIN GPS systems too...

CLARIFICATION: I KNOW the radios in 2001-2005 are 1.5DIN, but haven't looked that closely at the 2006. I forgot they changed up that part of the dash...

Re: [LiquidPT] Double din? Can't Post

Crutchfield calls the 2006 radio space "Euro-Din"
"Euro-DIN" stereos attach from the front through the 2" tall rectangular hole in the dash, sliding into a metal sleeve that attaches to the front of the dash.

No matter what you call it, it isn't 4".
GPS has to be a very small screen or a pop-up screen.

Yea chrysler does not even offer an in-dash gps for the 06 PT. The unit they sell at the dealers is mounted on the top of the dash and attached with glue. The updates (little 256mb sd cards) are like 300 bucks!!

The trim can be modified to fit a double din. We have done it in a Charger. I have a 06 PT and there is room to put a double din.

The standard radio size is called Din
Double Din is 2 din sizes.
Most aftermarket radios are either din or double din size.

Re: [destroyer4] Double din? Can't Post

CheersHi and welcome to the PTCC.Was thinking of a in dash Gps unit but noticed that I get much better use of a portable Magellan Roadmate 700 with a standard windshield mount.I can take it and switch it out to Ginny's Woodra when she needs it,and being right outside of NYC the unit goes away when not in use so there is nothing to tempt Crack Head Thieves who will rip apart your dash and destroy your car to get a in dash unit.I purchased mine fro www.heartlandamerica.com .They sell refurbished units with the same factory warranty as the new ones at a greatly reduced price.Think I paid 350 dollars for mine and couldn't be happier...Peace Out and God Bless.......Mike

Re: [Cruiser RN] Double din? Can't Post

If all you want is a straight forward no frills gps unit. The TomTom One unit is the way to go acccording to cnet and it is less then 300 dollars

If you do not mind not being able to hook up your ipod or make calls with bluetooth this is the way to go but if you want all that the 910 tomtom is for you.
They offer free map upgrades until june 15, 2007

Re: [phantom2] Double din? Can't Post

Well folks, I got sick of searching for a 1.5 din sat/nav/radio for my 06 PTC so I bought a Pioneer AVIC-D3 with the bluetooth kit, remote control and Ipod cable and I removed the stock radio, made some modifications inside the dash to accomodate the AVIC, manufactured some custom mounting brackets, enlarged the opening in the bezel and wired that sucka up. I'm no expert in cutting plastic but I have to admit, it looks great and works perfectly! Who said a double din wouldn't fit in a PT Cruiser? Anyone who is thinking of doing this, let me know and I wil send some pictures to help you along! The Pioneer AVIC-D3 is on sale and has a $200.00 rebate from Pioneer right now so if your thinking of doing it, now is the time! Zap!
