Hey Dave, Checked the service manual, P1684 = "Battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts".--- No big deal there.
PO302 = "Misfire detected in #2 cylinder".---------- Don't you have a turbo or SC ? If you do, I think you're supposed to change the spark plug gap to .035 to prevent misfire. Or maybe it's a bad plug or plug wire ??
Hope that helps. ---------- Hahn turbo-watercooled, intercooler, T-2 rods, Wiseco pistons, tensioner upgrade, larger injectors, Crane #14 cams, S.S.valves, GT intake manifold, 3"custom exhaust, gauges, Ram-air hood, lake pipes, Stull beltline and hood molding, E&G billet grille and side molding, bumper covers, Polk door & pillar speakers, factory subwoofer, flameball

I can't say if it's safe to drive. Maybe somone with more expertise will offer an opinion. If it were me, I'd drive it. If you disconnect the negative terminal on your battery for a minute or two, then reconnect it, the PO302 code should go away and the engine light go off. It could have been a fluke or something that tripped it. I got the Service manual from Wyckoff Chrysler, about $80.00. Your dealer could probably order you a set. It's one main book about 2" thick and a "service manual supplement" book, maybe 1/2" thick.
Good luck, try the battery disconnect. I'd bet the code doesn't come back again.
BTW-- my car is a 2001 and my manual covers that year ---------- Hahn turbo-watercooled, intercooler, T-2 rods, Wiseco pistons, tensioner upgrade, larger injectors, Crane #14 cams, S.S.valves, GT intake manifold, 3"custom exhaust, gauges, Ram-air hood, lake pipes, Stull beltline and hood molding, E&G billet grille and side molding, bumper covers, Polk door & pillar speakers, factory subwoofer, flameball

Thanks Al..Yep the disconnect worked. Same thing happened about 2 days ago. It seems to light up when I do a pedal to the metal hard acceleration. Todays' occurance was from a standing start and once a few days ago when i punched it while testing it out and already going about 110KM, just as I reached 160KM...
Thanks for all the info..I will have the shop check it out on Friday.

If you disconnect the battery, you loose the diagnostic information stored when the fault was set. A service technician may not be able to diagnose it properly after the diagnostic information "Diagnostic Trouble Codes" and "Freeze Frame Data" is lost.
You can purchase manuals from chrysler by calling Toll Free 1-800-890-4038 There are 5 different books for each model year PT Cruiser, the service manual costs the most. ---------- Mike Challis - PT Cruiser Club Founder PT Cruiser Club is built around a community of people with the same interest (the Chrysler PT Cruiser), nowhere else will you find so much PT Cruiser information and as many enthusiasts.

Hi gang, So if you disconnect the battery to clear codes and get the Check Engine light off, wouldn't that just keep the light on by triggering code 1684? wd40 ----------

A 1684 does not trigger the CEL. It's just there in the background and if you do the key on-off-on-off... sequence or connect an OBD tool it then comes up. ---------- 2001 silver Limited-Touring (leather/suede, 4W disk, traction, heated mirrors & all :-) Mods: Tokico HP all around / Energy Suspension Master Kit / K&N drop-in / R1 Concepts drilled & slotte disks all around / Enkei RPF1 16x7 wheels & Conti Extreme Contact rubber / Prestige APS620 remote starter
