Engine Coolant leaking from timing case Can't Post

I have a 2002 PT Touring Edition. Last night, my son and I parked in the driveway and as I was walking towards the front door I could smell engine coolant. I walked outside this morning to find coolant on the ground at the front of my car. I drove it over to the closest "mechanic" (Big O Tires) and they informed me that it was leaking coolant from the timing case. There were no previous coolant leaks or the smell of coolant. Before I take it to my local Chrysler dealership, does anyone know what price range the repairs will/should fall within? Is this a problem that anyone else has experienced?

has this happened only once or is it now leaking all the time? How many miles are in the car?

This is the only time that it has happened since I've owned the car. I didn't have any problems with coolant leaks or overheating. There was a sizable amount of coolant on the ground when I went outside this morning. I put some coolant in it to be safe and immediately drove it to Big O. I know this may not have been the best place to take it, but I simply wanted to know exactly where the coolant was coming from (hose, radiator, etc). I've known the manager for almost twenty years and knew he would at least take a look. I bought it used in October of '06. The odometer rolled to 100,539 milles as I pulled into my driveway last night.

The only thing behind the timing cover is the water pump. If the timing belt has not been replaced, it's probably time for a timing belt, water pump and tensioner. You want to have all three done as the repair proceedure is the same for any one of these and the labor to do it is HIGH, typically around $600.00.

Thanks for the information. What should I be looking at total cost wise to have all three (pump, belt, and tensioner) done plus the $600 labor?

None of the parts are expensive, most people are saying 750-850 for the total job. Of course this all depends on your stealer.

"Stealer"......as Larry the Cable Guy would say, "I don't care who ya are, that's funny!!!". Once again, thanks for the help. Now I can macho up and act like I know what I'm talking about on Monday morning at the dealership.
