Engine Light Can't Post

Hi everyone!
I have installed the plugs and plug wires you recommended for our 2003 GT. It can fly now but, the engine light is on again. Same code P0304. What's the next thing to check? Thanks for your help!! Glen

Re: [WyoGal] Engine Light Can't Post

CoolHi Linda....The most likely culprit is a loose gas cap for starting the engine light on.If it is it will turn off within 6 driving cycles........God Bless.......Mike

Re: [Cruiser RN] Engine Light Can't Post

Thank you Mike. We have tried the gas cap. I should have said in the first post that it seems like it will start to miss when it's idling for, but speed the idle up it stops. It runs perfect while driving. Thank you very much. Glen

A loose gas cap will not set a misfire code. Check for a vac leak by the #4 cyl. also possibly a partially clogged injector or carbon build-up on the valves.

Re: [WyoGal] Engine Light Can't Post

I read somewhere that P304 is a misfire in cylinder #4. But since you already replaced the plugs and wires, I do not know, unless there is a faulty plug or wire (even if it is new) if not the coil might be bad.

Did you reset the computer? I know to reset codes, you need a code reader or disconnect a battery cable. I read on this forum that if a trouble code comes on and you get it fixed and it is still on; then reset the computer and watch for it again.

If nothing works, then your best bet is a mechanic.

Good Luck

Re: [LeoCruiser] Engine Light Can't Post

Thank you Ed. I've added a can of injector cleaner to the fuel. I'm thinking about replacing the injectors, but that
will require removing the manifold to reach them. I'm going to talk to the Dodge place today and see if they have a way to test without taking it apart and replacing parts. A compression test might be what's needed. It only misses at idle. (If it had wings I think it could fly). Thank you very much! Glen

What did you set the Sparkplug gap at when you installed them? Too large a gap will cause rough idle.

Hi Bluephrog
I set the gap on .040. I will pull the cylinder no. 4 plug and recheck it. Thank you for your input. Glen

A misfire code right after changing plugs + wires...honestly, don't look farther. I bet it's faulty plug/wire/connection between both.

I can be wrong though

Re: [Duster] Engine Light Can't Post

Thank you Duster
I going to replace that no. 4 plug and plug wire and see if that fixes it. I made a appointment at the Dodge dealer to have the injectors tested. I can cancel that if this works. I pulled the plugs and rechecked the gap yesterday. My neighbor, he's in his 80's says to move that no. 4 plug to another cylinder and see if that might cause to code to change. Thank you very much. Glen

Re: [WyoGal] Engine Light Can't Post

Linda, our 2003 Cruiser has had poor mpg and intermittent rough idle. I started with new Plugs and wires which along with the correct gap of .040 the mpg went up dramatically. It had an intermittent cut-out at 2500 rpm and I changed the coil. The idle at stop lights now feels like the car isn't on (it's so smooth). I got a Borg Warner coil at O'reillys for about $80.

Re: [basche] Engine Light Can't Post

Thank you Brad. The Dodge dealer found an air leak at the intake manifold gasket. Our GT needed a tune up but that wasn't causing the miss fire. The air leak was the problem. Now our little Turbo is like new again. It just needs wings and I think it would fly. Best regards. Glen

The intake manifold gaskets are of poor quality and have a very limited lifespan in the GT configuration, this is an understated issue with the GT's. I won't ask how much you paid for the repair, but are you aware that the gaskets sell for approximately $4.00 each? I performed the R&R myself just to save on the labor.

Regards!
