Engine Replacement

My 2001 girl has to have a heart transplant. She only has 67K miles...... I get a new engine for only 100.00 because I purchased an extended warranty. So that is not the issue. The issue is... I took her to the dealer as always... every 3K miles to have the oil changed and all of her fluids checked. The oil would be verrrry low, but not evidence of cast off, just low I took her to the shop for a full check up before leaving California, travelling over the mountain to Oregon. BUT... the Doc says no deal Rosi... the heart she is sick. I feel grateful that this problem was discovered at the shop and not at the top of the mountain, with my son, my cat and me alone in the car. There was metal in the oil, and she is waiting for a new heart. The block is on backorder, which gives me pause!!! WHY WHY WHY... is this on back order? Has anyone had the same issue or heard of this happening to anyone else? I miss my car. She is my truck, my limo, my attitude. I am not without a car, but I am without my attitude!!!! Picture of my girl attached. With all things crossed, I go down to california in a month and get her. Rosi ---------- The Thwings of Dundee, Oregon

Sorry to hear about your engine. As you say glad you got it checked before leaving for Oregon. Did they ever say what caused the problem ? so are you moving to Oregon or where you just visiting California ? Good luck and Happy Cruisin !! ----------

Sorry stupid question, didn't you top off the fluids inbetween oil changes. My PT is one of those that does burn oil between oil changes. I make sure to the oil topped off.. Not doing that could cause failure. Or was there another cause??? ----------

I was so religious about the oil changes. Even the service rep was perplexed at where the oil would go. Just weird.... They NEVER said anything about how often this had happened. I am living in Dundee and working in Hillsboro. The miles are racked up on her big time..... BUT to my "Know very little about cars girl" amazement, I thought the previous miles would go away when I got the new block. But she is good to go... in the Hillsboro "Larry Miller" dealer for oil change, new passenger side headlight assy, the headlight cover was discolored/pealing and getting new swaybar bushings. I have my second PT - a 2005 Hi Output Turbo with 7.000 miles. ALL of the oil suddenly left it while I was traveling at 60 mph. It was towed to a dealer on 12-17-05 and is still there awaiting an engine replacement covered by the warranty. They tell me that the cause was "thruster bearing failure." Any similar experiences ? ----------

I just had a new engine put in my 2003. Warped crankshaft. It's hard to say for shure, but there seem to be a fair number of cases where the engines just go in these cars. Personally I think replacing an engine in a car with less than 60,000 miles is crazy. I have put a little over $6000 into mine this year, I regret buying this car. ----------
