My 2005 PT has auto trans. There is virtually nil engine braking when I take my foot off the throttle. Is this normal?? ----------

Depends on what gear you have selected, how fast you are going and also if you are using cruise control. The transmission wants to be in the highest gear possible. If you take your foot off the accelerator it will also unlock the torque converter. These two things can make it feel like you have no engine braking. Selecting "3" will not allow a shift to 4th gear and you should feel some engine braking. Selecting "1" will engage a clutch that is not normally engage if you have it in "D". This clutch engagement will give you engine braking as long as you are in "1" and you don't have a turbo (in a turbo after 8 mph it will disengage and the spur clutch will free wheel, no engine braking). If you turn on your cruise control it will engine brake once you exceed the "set" speed. You don't have the control (or the gears) that you have with a manual transmission for more precise engine braking. ----------

Thanx for that info, I have an '04 w/Turbo. Does anyone know of any Tranny updates for the automatic? I would like to do some updates to get the trans to shift a little harder/solid for less wear and better mileage. Are there any "Shift Kits" for these trannys like you used to be able to get for Turbo 350s/400s, C6s etc? Or is there any place to look for this type of thing for these Chrysler Trannys? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanx again, Mark ----------

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanx again, Mark There is an upgrade rebuild that is listed on PTcrew that some have done when they destroyed the OEM trans. Its called the Powerdeamon build, since powerdeamon is no more. And another fellow AJ is working on a trans but his is still in the testing phase and is going to be for serious power. One thing that has come out of his research is that a lot of trans failures could be slowed down is by not getting into boost if you have turbo PT while in O/D it burns out the clutches, so shifting back to 3rd and then hammering it safer for the trans. The powerdeamon like build will hold up for lower modded power or stock abuse for a long long time. For the Turbo a shift kit to make it respond better is Stage1 it changes how the trans shifts and its shift points = the need for a rebuild kit since its a lot of fun and people destroy the trans.. This is what I have picked up by reading auto trans threads in different PT lands, and why I drive a manual ---------- Phssst! Looking for a 13.9 second pass in the 1/4 this year..
