Frozen Windows

Well it's winter in central Illinois, and the windows that are suppposed to drop when you open the door have frozen in the up position twice now. The first time it snowed, and they froze. This second time was over the past weekend when the temperature dropped to around 0 degrees. I could still open and close the door, but the window stayed up leaving a gap between the front and back windows with the doors closed. It took 20 minutes of driving before the windows functioned properly. I haven't bothered to complain to DC yet. The local dealer has been very good about fixing the few problems I've had. However, this is a design feature that they are not likely to change quickly. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas that don't involve moving to a warmer climate or heated garages. Won't do the first, and the garage is storage for our stuff not cars. Besides, when I have to drive the car someplace and park it, there aren't any garages available just large open parking lots. Happy Holidays, PurpleTub, ----------

howdy PurpleTub the problem you are having is moisture is freezing on the window and the window seal. What I have done this year is take a credit card and run it between the window seal and the window sliding it the whole length of the window. this breaks up the ice and lets the window move down the 1/2 inch and back up when you close the door. I don't know how DC could fix this as the window needs to drop down in order to clear the ragtop. I hope this helps you out. have a super cruizin day ----------

KCccruizin, thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely give the credit card a try. I've done almost everything but that. Enjoy the holidays! ----------

This problem cannot be fixed. It is design inherent. BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes use this same technology,as does Ford on the T-Birds and this is a common complaint. I have been asked to fix this a dozen times, and there is no fix. www.leakpro.com P.S. I have mine in storage for the winter. Can't wiat till May!!! ----------

Try a product called 303 - spray it on the rubber and the edge of the window wipe off . ----------

Where can I get the 303 stuff. Currently I am looking at my 2000 Lb paper weight sitting in the drive way. Windows have been frozen for 3 weeks. I am going to try the credit card also. ----------

Howdy rmasaanova, the trailer i have was made in Lee's Summit Missouri by Masterpiece Trailers there tele# 816-525-1467. Cost $2600.00 including the Paint to match my PT. I don't know if they deliver as they are a local trailer builder. It is a 5X7 inclosed trailer total weight for the trailer empty is 550 LBS. It comes with chrome wheels. One thing i would suggest if you get this trailer take it to a rhino liner place and have the front of the trailer sprayed to prevent rock chips. I learned the hard way after i got hundreds of rock chip on the front of the trailer when on a 1600 Mile trip. I hope this helps you out Have a super cruizin day ----------

What I have done when the windows freeze in the up position, is to just unlatch the top, push it slightly up and then close the door. The door will clear the top and close fully with the top just slightly up. Then pull the top back down and latch it closed. There will be no opening at the top of the window and the door will be in the fully closed position. After driving a short way the windows will un-freeze and all is ok until the next time. Hope that helps a little, as it works for me. I really love the convertible and hate to put it away just because of a little problem like this. Good luck. ----------

Forget the 303 stuff! You could use a good quality silicone paste General Motors part # 992887 (canadian) I think US is the same. It comes in a toothpaste type type for about $20.00. Wipe it on all your weatherstrips and rubbers etc...this will help a bit. It will keep all your weatherstrips like new forever! I suggest using it 3-4 times per year. Problem is the "smart glass mechanism". Basically water gets into the door, it is supposed to, and when it freezes, it freezes everything inside the door, window regulators, motors, etc...Any questions check us out www.leakpro.com ----------

Could try getting a "c0ckpit cover", which is finally available, from Performance Plus in Toronto, Canada. Price is $80.00 Canadian (about 5 bucks American, I think). The URL is: http://www.perfrmplus.com/...=50&prodtype=396 I'm going to get one as soon as I can. The other answer would seem to be a remote starter, and leave the heat turned on. The cover is cheaper, though. I love our Canadian winters. Really , I do! ---------- Be Well, Steve

Ahh, just posted a new thread on this. I used a butter knife...I could see the rubber strip stuck to the window quite clearly. The unlatch of the top works well too! But I will be getting the car into the garage and start using a car cover as well. ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.
