Frozen Windows

I know I've seen an old thread about frozen windows, but has anyone figured out anything to prevent them from freezing? I've been frozen out for the past couple of mornings. I can get the driver's door open to start the car, but have to leave it running for about 15 to 20 minutes before the windows respond. Someone has mentioned popping the top, but this won't work for me, as the windows don't respond even with the doors open. I tried the credit card thing as well, with no luck. Has anyone opted for a remote start to heat up the car before trying to get in? I hate to invest the money, especially with the price of gas and leaving the engine running. Oh I wish I had a garage! ----------

I had the same thing this morning. I was bummed. We moved a year ago and lost the garages as well. I too am thinking of getting a remote starter. My wife and I are thinking of moving somewhere warmer lol. But I have to warm the car up before they all work as well. Take care Rich RPM Inferno ---------- RPM Inferno Rich

Do you mean that the windows don't do that thing where they go down about half an inch when you open the door and that you can't close the door without the window dropping? Sorry, I live in Nevada, no concept of freezing windows... I see how popping the top would help you get the door closed though. If you were to open the top latch and lift up on the top a bit, wouldn't the door then be able to close? Then you could relatch the top and take off, hopefully your car would be warmed up by the time you got where you were going and all would be good when you got there. ---------- 2005 Bright Silver Convertible, 5 speed with 8 ball knob, chrome door spears, chrome gas cap door, chrome antenna bezel, chrome grill kit, chrome rear bumper pillows, chrome bumper trim, stainless antenna with flames, stainless door panel trim, chrome smoothies with baby moons, 2" wide "gangster" white walls, chrome tail light trim, K&N air filter element in a modified airbox and an oogah horn. Quote: Has anyone opted for a remote start to heat up the car before trying to get in? I hate to invest the money, especially with the price of gas and leaving the engine running. Oh I wish I had a garage! We don't have a vert, so I can't comment on the windows freezing problem. I guess this is not an issue with the wagons since I have never experienced it. On the topic of remote starter, however, I highly recommend it! During the winter, we crank up the heat, put the vent setting to mixed defogger/foot setting just before the mechanical system kicks in to move the vent setting from recycle to fresh air. In the morning you just start the car and walk out 10 minutes later to a toasty car with all the snow and ice melted off of the windows - no standing in the cold scraping windows... In the Summer, crank the A/C before you get out, and you come back to a nice and cool car. Yes, you do end up using more gas and with the price of gas going up it will cost you a few dollars. So the question is, would you be willing to give someone a couple of bucks to warm up your car and scrape the ice while you enjoy your morning coffee. It's worth it for us, especially that the PT is my wife's car.
PS: I got the one in my signature on ebay and it cost me: $49.95 (remote starter) + 34.99 (Sentry Key bypass module) + 19.90 (shipping) + $2 (resistors from Radioshack to get the locks to work properly) = $106.84 I did the installation myself. ---------- 2001 silver Limited-Touring (leather/suede, 4W disk, traction, heated mirrors & all :-) Mods: Tokico HP all around / Energy Suspension Master Kit / K&N drop-in / R1 Concepts drilled & slotte disks all around / Enkei RPF1 16x7 wheels & Conti Extreme Contact rubber / Prestige APS620 remote starter

I have an 06 vert, but I'm not sure what you mean by frozen windows. I did have a problem with my driver's door glass not opening enough to open or close .The dealer fixed that problem in an hour. No charge for that repair. The passanger window has worked every time. .As for the remote starter, that sounds like a waste of good money with the price of gas the way it is. My wife has one on here Buick but I won't get them on my Two PT's or my truck. I just get in and go .They warm up fast enough. ---------- big jim

Yes when it was real cold the windows were frozen and after you get the door open, the windows do not go back up when the door was closed. But after about 10 minutes the car was warm and it worked fine. take care Rich ---------- RPM Inferno Rich

My wife is retiring this coming june I retired from my first job nine years ago. If she really does retire then I'll retire from my second job. Then Maybe move to warmer climate, I'll rent our house out just to be safe in case we don't like it. That'll give us some extra spending money besides. ---------- big jim

I had that lovely problem last week, basically what I do is I have one of those frequent shopper cards that you get from the grocery stores or other places, the one that fits on the key ring. So what I do is slip it between the window and the rubber piece that the window goes down between. I put it in as far back as I can and quickly run it the length of the window up to the mirror. That's enough to break the frozen part of it and I can enter the car normally without having to force the door open. ---------- 05 Vert, turbo lite, standard atx, k&n, roll bar speakers, klingons removed, Airbox surgically enhanced...lol Just chillin in Cincy!

That is exactly what I do, swipe the shoppers card between the glass and the rubber and VOILA'. Some have placed lubricant between the glass and rubber seal to ease the icing. It is not a big deal, this happens to even the most expensive convertibles on the road. :-) ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.
