Headroom, legroom in a vert.. Can't Post

Hello all, first post.
I'm in love with the PT styling (much to the chagrin of some close freinds) and am very seriously considering a convertible. A guy here at work mentioned that there is really no room for a guy my size in one? I'm 6'4 and have never been in a PT. I find that hard to believe but he's been in one and said it's pretty cramped. What's the head/leg room like? Obviously plenty with the top down, but here in SO CAL we do have an occasional rainy day. Also, how reliable are they? I'm considering a used vert with turbo/stick. Maybe an 05 or 06. I really am interested in one and hope to have one by Feb. if I can find a decent one locally.

Thanks in advance
Rockulus

When I first got my 05, I thought it seemed cramped. But, I think that may have been an illusion. The black top and the smallish (in height) tinted windows give it a feel like you would get in a car with a "chopped top." Now, it seems like a "normal" car to me. You probably need to sit in one, see what the clearances feel like and judge it for yourself. You may feel like it's too small but in reality you may have plenty of headroom.

Hmmm, what have I forgotten???

I am amazed at the interior room with the top up, and the sheer comfort of these seats are truly great. I have back problems, and have never sat in a car with this much front seat comfort. I just bought mine in November so can hardly wait for top down weather. Is the winter over yet?

I was just curious what everyone else considered "top down" weather. I was just thinking of this yesterday, since it was "top down" weather for me! My definition is 60 and sunny with a light jacket or with the heater on low. At 65 no jacket, no heater as long as there's sun.

The guy where you work must be one of those PT haters. The PT Cruiser is actually known for it's ample leg room and comfortable ride. I traded in my big boat Olds 88 and I think my Cruiser rides better!

You may have a hard time finding a convertible stick. The sticks are only available in the GT models I believe. Any 'vert owners here have a manual tranny?

Top down weather? I love the built in thermometer in the rear view mirror. I know as soon as it hits 70 the top goes down!

Let me say this. I'm 6 ft 6 in tall and they don't call me big jim for nothing. The convertible is ok for room but it is a little tight. Now if you get the electric seat for the driver's side that really makes the differance. In my 01 ,it has the electric drivers seat ,the 06 doesn't ,And you can tell the differance. I got the basic model in the 06 so I had to give up a little leg room. But you will get used to it. .One of these days I'll find a wrecked pt with the electric seat and it's mine. Why didn't I get the electric in the 06 ,well it was on the lot and the seat would have cost me an extra $2500.00. So I didn't get it.

Blondietall: Hey - I live in beautiful downtown Ladson. I know what you mean about on the cool days with the top down. I just turn on my heated seat as well as the heater. I'm seeing more and more verts in the Summerville area. I bought my 05 GT vert in April 2004 - it was one of the first in the area. Every where I went, people would come up and talk to me about the car - wanting to get a closer look.

Re: [RTMac] Headroom, legroom in a vert.. Can't Post

I have a manual in my regular "plain Jane" PT Cruiser Conv. It's probably a rarity, when I bought it I searched on the Internet for a standard 05 convertible and the one I bought was the ONLY one at all the dealers in Las Vegas without at least $5000 worth of add ons! Funny thing is, I can't imagine what you'd want to add to this thing other than some chrome, it seems like it's got everything! When I went to ask about the car, the first thing the dealer said was "it's got a stick though," like he was warning me. I told him, "it better!"

I got an auto. I drove a manual all my life and quite frankly got tired of it. I like to have a free hand for coffee and waving hello to all the pt on-lookers.
