Help with putting together a new Dream Cruiser Registry: Can't Post

Hello Everyone,

My name is Don Bedford, or better known in several PT Communities as Candyman! I am the proud owner of Dream Cruiser Series 2 Badge # 0377!

The reason I am writing is, I am trying to gather as many Dream Cruisers from all 4 lines of the Dream Cruiser Series as possible to try to establish a complete Dream Cruiser Registry over on my website, and wanted to see if any of our fellow Dream Cruisers would be willing to please come sign in to my registry! my goal is to try to track down the whereabouts of as many Dream Cruisers as possible to see how many are still currently in existence! Any help you could give me by way of Badge #, Location, and any history about your car would be greatly appreciated! With the recent loss of a few other large PT Cruiser sites, we are trying everything that we can do to keep the PT Cruiser enthusiasts alive, and every little bit helps!

Here is a link to my site: Please stop by and sign my registry if you get a chance!

http://westvalleycruisers.homestead.com/index.html

PLEASE NOTE: Please copy, and paste this link, or go to your home page, and type in West Valley Cruisers in your browser to locate our Site.

Thank you so much for your time, and consideration in our ongoing efforts to keep the PT Community alive, and well! Please take care, and Cruise safe!

Candyman

Re: [Cman] Help with putting together a new Dream Cruiser Registry: Can't Post

Hi Cman ......... Dave in Ky here ....... I have series 2 DC #0068 and I have been on the clubs website for months trying to find out if anyone has seen or heard of a 5 speed with a # lower than mine. So far I have heard of 2 cars in the 40's but both were autosticks. Chrysler has told me that some of the early #'s weren't used but cannot/willnot tell me how many. Maybe you could help me. My car was built on 1/23 which Chrysler says is the first week of production. Can you give me any info? Have you heard of a lower # 5 speed? Do you know anyone interested in purchasing this car? 49000 mi. I am hesitant to drive it, if it is indeed one of the first one or two off the line.

Re: [Cman] Help with putting together a new Dream Cruiser Registry: Can't Post

Don,

I actually started collecting Dream Cruiser information in 2002; originallyto prove that the Series 1 cars were not sequentially numbered. I have over 2500 VINs for the '02s; a couple hundred '03s and a hanfull of Series 3 an 4 cars. My plan was to collect the VIN, MDH code, Series #, and city where delivered. I also have www.dreamcruiserregistry.com reserved. I have not had time to do anything formal with the information and have also been struggling a bit with the privacy issue and what information to make accessable.

I still try to collect any that I see on eBay, too.

Dave

Re: [DaveJH110] Help with putting together a new Dream Cruiser Registry: Can't Post

Hey Everyone,

First off, thank you all so much for posting! Sorry I have not been around here in a while! I am battling some health problems that I'm afraid are giving me a run for my money.

Anyways, for Dave, in KY, The earliest ones I've got in my collection of Dream Cruiser Series 2's are yours, Santa Kruzer#0045 out here in So Cal, #0037 last known to be in in Key Largo, FL., and #0022, last known in Bakersfield, CA. As far as my records indicate, all of these too are all Autosticks, and since it is pretty well known that Chrysler did not release all of the numbered cars, as a few were kept for other reasons during early production, it may be likely that you have one of the earliest 5 speeds produced! Honestly for what its worth, even though these cars are a great example of what Manufacturers can achieve when they put their minds to it, and these truly are great cars, the fact is that these limited edition cars most likely will not appreciate enough to realize any kind of real collectors appeal for many years to come. You can take the famed Yenko Muscle Cars as a good example. These were a limited production of some of the nicest Dream Muscle Cars specially produced by Don Yenko at his dealership "Yenko Cheverolet out of Canonsville, PA. These highly sought after now rolling works of art, have only started to gain real popularity , and value in the last few years. Given Automotive Market Trends, and the fact that, even though in my opinion the Dream Cruiser Series 2, or for that matter all of the Dream Cruiser Line up are all great cars, you must take into account that in the end, these were intended as a low, to mid level car that people could afford, and nota Ferrari 250 GTO, or Dusenberg Model J type! I myself decided a while back that m that rather than put my ride into an air Bubble, I was going to enjoy mine, and the rest as they say is History! No reason to fear losing a ton of value! Just be careful, and have some fun! For what its worth, thats my take on it!

Candyman.

Re: [Cman] Help with putting together a new Dream Cruiser Registry: Can't Post

And to DaveJH110,

Thank you for posting! I have been researching as well, mainly just to see just how many Dream Cruisers actually out their! I too find myself frequenting the likes of E-Bay, or countless other sites looking for Dream Cruisers. I have managed to collect somewhere in the neighborhood of 1700 Dream Cruisers, and about 60 of them are of the Dream Cruiser Series 2. It has definetally been a bit of a challenge, but with a whole lot of work, and a little luck I have been able to track down several serial #s so far, but its still far from Complete!

Just like with the Series 1's, the Series 2,s also have odd numbering issues. Chrysler has confirmed that according to their records, their were 1982 Auto Sticks, and 297 Manually equipped Dream Cruisers Series 2'sindicating roughly 2189 units produced in 2003.The big problem with this is , during my research I have found.

#2367 in Mexico City,
#2311 in Irving TX,
#2567 still unknown location,
#2600 in Pennsylvania,
#2704 in New York, NY

and # 2485 which is currently in Canada, butwas supposedly originally distributed in the US, and is a true Dream Cruiser, not a Street Cruiser used for international market as originally presumed.

So their seems to be some indication that the estimated 2189 total units that were estimated by Chrysler before their alleged premature cutting of their production is a little off. If one, or two numbers showed up, then I might be able to follow a simple error, but their seems to be several out their which seems to clearly indicate that more units were produced than what was originally thought! Of course the offset could be a product of either using random # plates during the production process as many people believe.

As for the Vin #s i have collected over my investigation, I have had limited success with sending these Vin #s to Chrysler to cross check the Serial # associated with that vehicle, which also should bring up the Destination Slip as to where the vehicle was originally shipped. It is my goal to categorize as many serial #s, along with either where they were shipped to via the Manufacturer, or their last known location.

At any rate, it is a fun project, and I thank you all for your help!

Take care,

Candyman

...as mentioned by one or two others, the dash plaques were randomly applied and the fact that there are dash plaques with numbers higher than the total production is meaningless. Chrysler has no idea what dash plaque goes with what VIN. There were, according to Chrysler, 5006 Series 1 cars built and I have records of dash plaques with numbers higher than 5006 (though not many).

Re: [DaveJH110] Help with putting together a new Dream Cruiser Registry: Can't Post

Hey Dave,

Yep, I have seen the random plaque thing a couple of times, and thank you for reminding me. I think the overall thought of giving numbered plaques to the Dream Cruiser Series was a good idea, but the idea of just tagging them randomly during production, kind of as if an afterthought, just kind of takes a bit of the prestige away for me. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I would have liked to think that the guys down at the Toluca plant would have had them all nicely laid out in sequential order, and went right down the line, slapping them on with great precision, but when reality sets in, more times than not, its just not the case. A lot of times, these guys are pushing to the limit to keep the assembly line moving as fast as possible, and then when you enter a limited series that demands more work with all of the accessories, etc, then those production deadlines tighten that much more in an already demanding schedule Oh well, its still a way cool car, and I love it no matter what!

Take it easy!

       hey cman:

The Chrysler guy I talked to several times said that in addition to some early numbers not being used, there were blocks of numbers skipped. In his OPINION however, no larger numbers would have been used before smaller numbers. He feels that this explains the existance of vehicles bearing numbers higher than 2189. But a number 1143 was built before a 1768 for example.
