High pitched whistle

Thank you everyone for all your previous help... now I have something else to ask about! When the PT is idling we hear a high pitched whistling. In fact as we are driving we can hear the whistling even with the windows up. We hear it when it is idling and it goes away when you step on the gas. Any ideas? Thanks, Glen ---------- Linda

Good question, I have a high pitched whistle when I let off the accelerator and am traveling over 45 mph. ----------

Most likely a vacuum leak. Check all your rubber hoses that attach to the intake manifold. (I.E. Vacuum hose to the brakes, PCV.) A cracked hose will leak enough to create some noise when vacuum is high like at an idle or when when you're moving and you let off off the gas pedal. If it is a leak eventually, if it gets bad enough, you may have a rough idle and poor performance. ----------

I would agree with Bluephrog.... sounds like a vacuum leak to me as well. probably a cracked vacuum hose... ---------- Joel

Hi Joel The tech. said they can get old and brittle. I've worked on the old style engines and I think if everything is put together properly and torqued properly at the factory that wouldn't have happen. Best regard Glen ---------- Linda
