Inferno red paint ¿still? has orange hue to it??? Can't Post

I was washing my PT today and I noticed that with the sun directly on it, it looked kind of orangish.

I've heard about this "problem" before, but don't remember too much about it. Is this an issue with the paint or is it supposed to be like this?

Same thing happens when I look at my Patriot Blue very closely....I can see bits of green/bluish green in it. I don't think it's a "problem", rather just the way the paint is mixed.

Dopp-I think that is a natural result of the paint. InfernoRed has gold metal flake in it to give it that deep almost candy apple red luster.
In sunlight that gold can stand out and give the paint a slight orange look. I personally love this, because orange is a good rodder color-and ofcourse the PT has that look.

It is the metallic flake in the paint that does it. My Blue baby does the same thing as Jody's PT does in direct sun. I like it gives another character to the paint. I wouldn't worry Dop.

Cool, just making sure it's normal... I kinda like it. My friend has an orange GTI and it reminded me of that.

Doppel, There are basically two different bases that are used in the mixing of red paint. They start out with dark red and brighten it with yellow (makes orange - that's the orange hue you see) The other is to start out with a brighter red and darken it with blue. You can get the same color intensity going either way, but the two colors will look different under bright light.
Also, with translucent colors such as these, there is "sometimes" a metallic base coat put on under the color coat. This base coat can be silver, gold, green or blue. When top coated with Translucent red, these colors make up Candy Apple Red, Candy Red, Candy Brandywine, Candy Black Cherry. The PT does not use a base coat under the color coat. Instead it uses silver and gold metallic "double-fine" metalflake.

In other words - it looks orange because that is it's base.
