Installing a Spolier
|
Can't Post

|
I was looking around our local junk yards and found a wrecked black 04 GT Turbo that had the spoiler still on it and it was in perfect condition. Needless to say I bought it and am going to get it repainted silver at a local body shop. BUT here is my PROBLEM. How can I install it correctly? I don't have any idea where to drill the holes for it to bolt on?! Does anyone have a template or suggestions?! I really want to get this on my PT!!

How about going back to the junk yard where you got the spoiler and carefully measuring where the holes are in relation to the top and sides of the hatch? ---------- 2001 silver Limited-Touring (leather/suede, 4W disk, traction, heated mirrors & all :-) Mods: Tokico HP all around / Energy Suspension Master Kit / K&N drop-in / R1 Concepts drilled & slotte disks all around / Enkei RPF1 16x7 wheels & Conti Extreme Contact rubber / Prestige APS620 remote starter

There are two Mopar/'Chrysler wing bolt patterns here is the one I have, make sure the two bolt holes or studs line up on the wing first with the template to be sure if it is the right one or not: ---------- '05 GT Dream Cruiser Series 4. No.1109 My Mods PT Trailer Project Our PTs

Not the right pattern. Just a bit off side to side on the top bolts and a bit more off on the bottom ones. I called a few people today and it sounds like it is going to cost 80-90 bucks to get it painted silver and clearcoated. I am beginning to think that I should just sell this one and buy a new one that is already silver and have someone install it. Anyone need a spoiler for a BLACK PT Cruiser?!!?

Oh no problem. I was up visitng my family in MI over the weekend and looked around at the junk yards up there and found the spoiler. I am going to see if I can get someone to go over to the junkyard I got it from and make a pattern for me. Shouldn't be too hard....tape some paper down and run a pencil along the edges of the rear panel, then mark out the holes. We'll see how things go.

It does come with all the hardware too right?? - I am sure it will fit an 02. I have the templates that I made to position it and they match my 01. - The studs are attached to the spoiler itself, and I have the nuts that held it on. The rubber "padding" is still attached to the underside of the spoiler. BTW...it did come from a junk yard.....it has one small scratch in the paint but other than that it is in excellent shape!

I know they say that but its like a disclaimer so if it doesn't work out they can say "Told you so". But that's a crock. I got my spoiler through autotrucktoys.com and they painted. It matched perfectly. I recently had to get my front bumper replaced. It took three times taking it back to the dealer to get it right but they finally did. That's the key. Take them the spoiler and leave it as long as necessary for them to get it right. Hold that baby up to your car in the light prior to mounting. If it isn't right they can fix it before putting it on. They will want to do a blend most likely but you shouldn't have to. Try to find somebody that is willing to do their best for you no matter the size of job. Too bad there aren't many out there who will. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. '03 Inferno Red--Its getting some stuff too!

Sorry it didn't work out for you... I know you were really excited about it. Yeah these days $100 is pretty much what body shops charge to just touch your car. They may install a hubcap for under 100 but anything more than that $$$ $25 for all that is a sweet deal! Someone with a black PT should jump on it. Our PT is silver also (I think it's a twin of yours with the same options) and besides I have mixed feelings about a spoiler. I think mostly I like the clean, no spoiler look. Good luck with the sale.

Typical OEM-like wings installed on PTs are pretty much cosmetic and are not intended to generate significant downforce. Racing style wings that ARE intended to generated downforce, do so by compressing the air and in doing so introduce significant drag. So a race car (or a street car that is carrying a wing like what you'd see on a race car) does sacrifice some fuel economy for the sake of getting that extra downforce, and there by extra traction. Of course that's a secondary concern in racing. So in short, no - not the kind of wing I'd think you are talking about.

Thanks for the reply. I am thinking of the OEM spoiler. I am still undecided if to get one because the prices are so high. I do not think I can install it myself. ----------
