Intermittent jumping during acceleration

Hi. I have a 2003 Dream Cruiser (turbo) with 70K miles. I LOVE the car but it has a problem with acceleration. Sometimes when I accelerate the engine/car gets a very strong "jerky" feeling and this is accompanied by an inability to accelerate further. If I take my foot off the gas for a second and then reapply pressure, this will sometimes alleviate the problem. The problem is intermittent, in that sometimes it does it a lot (every couple minutes) and sometimes very little (every 1-2 hours), although lately it has been doing it A LOT more and so I'm getting more worried. I have heard this can be cause by cheap fuel but I always put in the highest octane. Any ideas? I have tried using additives and this seems to help short-term but it is difficult to truly know if the additives help since the problem is intermittent in nature. The check engine lights occasionally comes on during this but it goes off later as I keep driving. I have mentioned this to the dealer and they just told me it was probably because of cheap gas. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! Brian ----------

I have the same model, and had the same problem at about 30,000 miles. I changed the plugs AND wires and the problem went away. I went with Iridium IX plugs for turbo engines and Live Wire spark plug wires from Moss Motors. ----------

Awesome! Thanks for reply. Because of accessibility issues...Am I correct to think that getting to the plugs and wires would involved removing the turbo? If so, then I guess I would have to take it to the shop. Thanks, Brian ----------

Heck no....it's a relatively straightforward process on an '03 GT that still has the stock aluminum intake manifold in place. The plugs and wires are easily accessible, unless you do what I did and upgrade to the new improved plastic intake Good luck from another DC2 Brian! ---------- 5-speed Dream Cruiser S2 #1582 with MP S1 & BOV, Plastic Intake Manifold, rear Eibachs, Supertrapp axle-back exhaust, Crane FireWires & K&N drop-in. Plastic Chrome AMX TTAB AGP UCP and H&R Coilovers coming soon.

Thanks a bunch! Last weekend I replaced the plugs (with Iridiums) and the wires (with Magnecor) and now the car runs better than ever! I wish I had found this site earlier since I had been driving around with this problem for quite a while! Now it really is a Dream Cruiser!!! Thanks Again!! Brian ----------
