Just got towed

Got back from the dealer about 10 minutes ago after having my '01' towed in there. I was driving about 60 mph, 5 miles from my house when the engine quit. It won't even turn over. I coasted off the road, lights and radio working. I'm wondering if this is electrical or mechanical. Just changed the oil (it's OK), timing belt, plugs ect. Everything has been maintained. No engine light on - it was running fine and then just quit. Not trusting the dealer - I'd like to be armed with a little info - Thanks ---------- If it's gonna happen - it's gonna happen out there.

Sorry about this... Not that I'm an expert or anything, it seems to me this could be a computer (ECM or ECU)problem. I have seen these on cars past go out just in this same fashion. sometimes even after sitting for an hour the car might even start back up and then work just fine for a day or two before going out again. So you say it has power (radio, lights, fan)? Just no power to engine? If it was the fuel pump the engine would still crank. Let us know... BTW, I painted my intake manifold last night. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. '03 Inferno Red--Its getting some stuff too!

Hi Sent1, Just got it back. Turned out that the 02 Sensor shorted out, it shuts the engine system down while leaving the electrical system up. It only took them a couple of hours to rewire/reroute and $280.00 to fix. Runs great now. When you get a chance - post some pics of the painting you're doing under the hood. BTW, that's a great paint job on your DC, real class act.

Thank you. I will. Glad to hear it wasn't the worse case. Where is the O-2 sensor? is that the one on the exhaust? I just installed headers on Sunday. Hope I didn't damage that sensor when I made the swap. Oh, I guess that means I'll have to clean off the mirrored battery cover if somebody is gonna be lookin' Ya, you inspired me ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff. I guess there's a couple of them in there - so I can't tell you which one they worked on - just happy it was fixed. I like working under the hood, you can make a lot of changes with a little time and not to much money. What were the improvements with the headers? There's always something to keep up with. Bruno the Dent Guy was just out here doing some paintless dent repair for door dings this morning, boy he does nice work. Can't even tell where they were. Of course, I can't say specifically what the improvements are (if you're talking about HP gains). I don't have access to proper equipment to measure that. "They" say however, by adding high-flow exhaust one can gain around 20 horsepower. Not to mention the cool sound. Summit claims the muffler I got alone will add 20 HP. That might be for a V8 though. No matter. So, I got the headers on. Tomorrow I'll get the rest of it on--2 1/2 inch tubing all the way back with high-flow cat and muffler. Its not a high dollar system at all either. The headers I won on ebay for about $100-shipped. Cat converter $60, Muffler $15. Both of those from Summit. A friend of mine has the tubing laying next to his shop with all the bends. We are going to "cut and paste" so to speak. As you said, "A little time, and not too much money." A bolt-on Flowmaster dual exhaust is over $500 not including shipping or headers. Mine will nearly have the look of stock (with headers) but will have people wondering when they hear it. ---------- DC1 #1610--5-speed. Its got some stuff.
