Keyeeeeeeedddddd..... Can't Post

Some dork decided he wanted to see if my vinyl flames were real or paint so they keyed about six inches on the side of my PT this week. I knew it would eventually happen but man, am I ticked off! I was able to crease the vinyl back and hide the scratch somewhat but it went thorough to the metal. Some people just make me sick.

Oh man Ed.......it's pi$$ing me off too just to think that this is probably gonna happen to a lot more of us! I know you must be crushed...some people just don't have any respect for other peoples' property. I suppose they thought it was a real blast to do that to your car. How IGNORANT can they get??      Happy Frikkin New Year from a jealous punk. Been there too -SUX. But theyre a lot easier to fix than people realize. Months ago I posted the details to repair 'keyings'.
In case you haven't already... 3M makes an automotive adhesive, to reattach the tired vinyl. Wear latex gloves to keep your skin oil away from the tacky side. Should be able to smear on the glue with a toothpick, from beneath the torn sections. Warm up to soften the decal with medium heat -hair dryer. Use a squeegee to smooth out the warm decal, forcing any excess glue and air thru the tear cover with wax paper first, to prevent scuffing the vinyl. If torn ends match up, your golden. If not, use touchup paint (most are lacquers)to fill in any gaps. Seal the tear with three coats of clear nail polish (again, lacquer)and you should be ok. Wipe off excess with 'non-oily' nail polish remover or acetone.
Your flames appear to be printed, dont do this next step if so. You can lightly compound the rough surface of the clear coat tomorrow *As long as it isnt PRINTED decal!* Mine are solid color vinyl throughout thickness. Email me if any questions. hdfatb0y@hotmail.com

Man Ed, I can't believe how people are nowadays. Is it jealousy...envy...or just people who really don't care that you spent 20K for a new car? I'm sorry about your flames, I've has so many people at work come up to me and ask if I knew who the guy with the flames is. They all thought they were cool. I hope the paint isn't too badly damaged. Take it easy.

Ed,
So sorry to hear that. We have had several vehicles keyed at work. Everyone knew how excited I was about getting "Ruby" and it has taken a lot of the fun out of owning her, not being able to take her to work. We had a crab feast this summer. I drove my Mazda (just in case) and afterwards, took it home and came back out with "Ruby" to attend a local car show. A lot of extra driving, but she's still in good shape.
It's so sad that people have to be so ignorant. I hate to go through life living in fear, but you have to be as careful as possible. That's the price we pay for being high profile. Hang in there.

Ed- man- I feel for ya!
I remember that you designed your own flames & how excited you were when they finally went on. I can't believe that these
L-O-S-E-R-S do not have a clue or a care when they go around hurting people this way! Yeah, it's "just a car" --but YOU worked hard for it & YOU made an effort to keep it nice. The fact that they have no respect for that shows what kind of scum you are dealing with. I hope the sign shop that printed the flames out for you can give you some pointers. Fatboy seemed to have some ideas too. Hope something works & you are back to Cruisin' a perfect PT really soon...

All is well and thanks for the kudos. I pressed the vinyl flat and that is fortunately where most of the damage was. It covered pretty good and yes Fatboy, they were printed so I had to be careful. The crease sealed so that you have to get a couple of feet near it to notice it. The rest of the body has the scratch but that seems to be just on the clear coat and not into the metal like at the vinyl point. Apparently, most of the pressure was on the vinyl area as the streaked by the car with their key. I am not worried though. I firmly believe in Karma and what goes around comes around. That geek will get their someday down the road. At least I did not have a crash like some of you. I am soooo glad I did not pay out 7 grand for a paint job. The printer can print out any piece I need to cover the area so no worries there. I plan on changing the design each year or two anyway just to keep people guessing. I am just excited knowing that we are going to have another cruise this month with a whole bunch of PT's again. We sure have a lot more good people here than bad, believe me. It's just that the bad ones tend to be noticed more becuase of their immature behaviors. I plan on focusing on the good ones who are in abundance in our great city.

Ed,
I CAN SYMPATHIZE!!!
I had some "unknown" kick in the passenger door on my PT RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY FLAME JOB!!!
Bottom line is $4200.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have to get the door fixed and the ENTIRE flame job redone because it was custom mixed paint.
I feel for ya brother.
Pisses me off!
