Leak in my PT turbo lite
|

|
Took my PT back to the dealer yesterday as the rear view mirror fell off! They asked me if I "broke" it off. Like that is something I would do...swing and knock off my rear view mirror! Anyway, putting the assembly back on is no easy task, yeu need a torque screww to release the silver button from the assembly first. The glue it on, then replace and rescrew with the torque screwdriver. I had them do all of this then made an appt to bring the PT back in to have the top looked at. I am getting an odd leak (main reason foir the rear view mirror falling off, mositure kills that glue adhesive stuff holding the button on). I told them of this and they looked at me oddly, stating there have never been any reports of the PT convertible having a leak...EVER! Is this true? Anyone else ever have a leak? ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.

It probably is.... and normally I wouldn't have done it but I was out of town on my way to a PT Meet and I'd just driven thru some pretty hateful weather to include a mud slide and the PT was covered with red mud. ----------

Hi All, yeah the car wash is a no-no...mine does leak in the rain, and if you hold a hose over where the windsheild meets the top the leak will occur as drips coming from where the visors screw into the top windsheild bar and sometimes where the plastic overlaps are inside of the windsheild construction. It is not a huge leak, but since the PT was built to be a convertible and not simply a chopped coupe, I believe there is more going on here than meets the eye. My hunch is it is a slight structural issue, I got this car as a slightly used Chrysler fleet vehicle. But the folks in the parts and service are were really nice, unlike the dealer who sold me the car. So I'll let them investigate and I'll report back to you all soon! We actually just got back from driving from North NJ up to Niagra Falls for a small vacation, and my wife demanded she drive all the way up and back...she is addicted! What an awesome place! If none of you have gone please consider, a bit touristy near the falls but a nice vacation spot. I bought my 2005 GT vert new in April 2004. I have never had problems with the top leaking, HOWEVER, I did have to have the top completely replaced in June 2004. Soon after I bought the car, I was cleaning the inside of the rear window and noticed the headliner didn't fit right around the rear window. I took it back to the dealer and they said it needed a special clip kit for the inside of the back headliner. They ordered the part and after it was installed, it still wasn't right. They then got authorization by Chrysler to have the car taken to a local car top specialist and have the rear window/headliner area repaired. They gave me a loaner PT Cruiser (but not a GT vert) while they had my car for two days. I got my car back and it still wasn't fixed. They got authorization for a second repair attempt at a different car top shop. Got the car back - still not fixed. At that point, my patience ran out. I demanded that the top be replaced and that I be provided a loaner equivalent to my car with a full tank of gas. I also had a few choice words for their service department and the whole experience which I will not repeat here. They immediately went and got me a brand new PT cruiser off the lot and filled the tank. I picked my car up a couple of days later and went over the new top with a fine tooth comb. So far, no problems with the new top. So, to all you vert owners, double-check that rear window where it meets with the headliner. ----------

Good story on the need to be very willfull with car dealers. Fortunately I have not had any issues with the rear window, all is good back there. But if they do not find the cause of this odd leak in the actual windshield structure I'll be sure to place a hose over the area and have them watch the leak occur. What is kinda worrying me is that the service guy who was reparing my fallen rear view mirror seemed VERY VERY surprised about hearing of this leak issue...and when I told him he could simply place a hose up on the cloased top to see it for himself, he dummied up. I bring it in on 8/7. Once they diagnose the problem I will ask how long the repair / issue fix will take then I too will ask for a loaner! When they replaced my top, they had to re-adjust the top when it closed because it did not line up right with the windshield. In fact, the edge of the top overshot the edge of the windshield a little bit and would not make a tight seal. They finally did get it aligned to where the top and windshield were a good fit. Could your top maybe need an adjustment? ----------

Could be possible, but I did point out something to the service tech when I was getting my rearview mirror put back on. I noticed the platicky cap that covers the outside edge of the windshield seems to disconnect from the body a bit near the place where it leaks. I'll let you know what takes place next week. Isn't it great when the dealer fixes something - and it works. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen often enough, in my experiences. ----------

I hear ya, I am always ready for a battle fo some sorts when dealing with them. But I have found it is the sales folks who stink. I bypass them and call the service techs directly, they actually seem to care about their work and the customers satisfaction. ---------- 2005 Touring Edition Convertible Turbo 2.4L LITE Automatic, cool vanilla, faux Street Edition badging, K&N drop in filter, modded airbox, mini-chrome side flames, chrome gas cap cover, customized rear mud flaps, flying siberian husky fur when top dropped.
