Loser to PT Cruiser

What is it about these Chevy guys? Are they still in denial over how the 426 Hemi spanked them during the muscle car era? Why do we continually have to show them that Mopar is still king even today? I meet with a group of my buddies every Tuesday night. A few months after I bought my Cruiser. Danny, the Chevy guy of the group shows up in a new black HHR LT. We all go outside to admire his new ride and I compliment him on his purchase. Well, it doesn't take long for the "trash talking" to start. "You know, my HHR has the high output 175hp engine in it, and I'll bet it will run circles around that old PT cruiser." Danny said. I said, "Well Danny, try to remember, 150hp Mopar is equal to about 300hp Chevy." I replied. "Well....lets go see." Danny challenged. I decided to play hard to get. I just said, "I wouldn't get in too big of a hurry if I were you, when the time is right, it will happen." I answered. Well, several weeks went by and I continued to weather Danny's abuse. Meanwhile, I took the back seats out, kept the gas level below 50% and waited for the "right time". Heh! Heh! Well, one night as our meeting was breaking up, I was leaving the parking lot and I see Danny whip out of the parking lot and move his HHR into the left lane to pull along side my PT. I reached down, turned off the AC, dropped the 5-spd into second, got my RPM to 3000 revs and let nature take it's course. I must say, I was a bit disappointed in the HHR. By the time I hit third gear, the HHR was clearly visible in my rear view. That next Tuesday, for the first time, Danny showed up without his rhetoric. I didn't say anything to him or anyone else about our little joust. I wanted to let him think it was our little secret. Last Tuesday, I slipped out of the meeting claiming to make a phone call. I had bought Danny a holder for his license plate and installed it while he remained inside. I also installed a holder on my PT. As the meeting broke up, everyone got into their cars, including Danny, and drove home. That was Tuesday night......I have not received a call from Danny, so I strongly suspect he is still driving his HHR with my little gift on the back. addendum: since the photos I've attached did not post, I'll tell you what they were. The license plate holder was a "create your own message type". I put "Loser to PT Cruiser" on the one for Danny's HHR and "Hunting HHRS" on my PT. Was the HHR a stick or automatic? I'm guessing automatic because both the HHR and PT with automatic transmission are slow off the line. You did a 2nd gear burnout with a 3k drop? Don't be surprised if your tranny doesn't last. ---------- 2005 Stone White SRT4 2004 Graphite Auto

I was just talking about the auto non turbos, though the 5 speed non turbos are only a little faster off of the line. The non turbos are great to cruise in. You just can't confuse the non turbo PT for a speed demon. I always thought the PT should come stock with the 180 hp turbo lite engine. ---------- 2005 Stone White SRT4 2004 Graphite Auto

No mean green, that was from a roll. I know the torque range of this 2.4 starts at about three thousand RPM. So I just put the car in second gear, brought it up to 3000 RPM and allowed my over confident friend to make his move. He nailed it, and I simply hit the accelerator (no clutch). Yes, this HHR was automatic, but this was a rolling start. So if the HHR auto suffers off the line, it wasn't a factor here. I drove the HHR stick and I don't think it would help the HHR. The HHR 5 spd is a very wide ratio transmission. The first gear is so low it's useless, then the gap from first to second is too wide. That is one of the reasons I chose the PT over the HHR. I think the PT 2.4 has a large torque advantage over the HHR 2.4, perhaps giving the RPM edge to the HHR. CajunCruiser ---------- CajunCruiser "Tacky.....yet delightfully unrefined!"

That's a good thing. I know some unthinking (idiot) people over on SRT Forums who thought it was cool to burn out from a stop in second gear. They couldn't understand why their tranny broke. ---------- 2005 Stone White SRT4 2004 Graphite Auto

Hi Mean Green, That would be pointless. The standard PT seems to have way too much power for the HO HHR. Maybe the Turbo HHR will be a worthy opponent to the GT......but my money is on the GT. ---------- CajunCruiser "Tacky.....yet delightfully unrefined!"

My reply would have been along the lines of "Really, the high output engine is 175HP? Huh, that's like, what, 5HP less than the mid level engine in the PT." Then I would have pointed out the road test article that placed the old design of the PT Cruiser ahead of the newly designed HHR and asked him why Chevy couldn't do a better of copying the PT since they had 5 or 6 years to work on improving it? ---------- '04 Limited Edition Platinum Series Turbo Lite + Stage 1 + VAK intake + Magnecor wires = 14.48 @ 95mph Pix here
