Lower Control Arms

I picked up my '05 GT from the dealer yesterday, after bringing it in for a clunking noise when braking and turning. $800 later, new lower control arms and the clunking is gone. However, the clunk has been replaced by a creaking noise when braking at low speeds. (coming to a complete stop) Any ideas. I read in a thread at another forum that this creaking is normal for a automatic; any thoughts out there? Thanks in advance. ----------

The creaking noise is not normal. Try to locate the creak. Try bouncing the car by putting you knee on the bumper. From the info you give I would suspect the new control arm bushings. ----------

I would agree with the new noise being created by the tightness of the new LCA bushings. Here's an old mechanic's trick to quiet down rubber/silicone components and drive belt: squeeze a little baby or talcum powder on and into the suspected noisemaker. Talcum is a dry lubricant and has given me much relief from squeaky & squealing belts and rubber/silicone suspension parts over the years. Works great at eliminating squeaks when swept into hardwood flooring grooves too! And no... corn-based powders don't work... they simply make a gummy mess of everything. Thanks for the reply. Is this something to be concerned about? Will the creaking eventually subside (it's only intermittent right now). I can lve with an occasional creak as long as it's only a noise. ----------

I wouldn't concern myself with the creak. It may be irritating on long road trips, but for me that's where I turn up the stereo. You can also grab a can of silicone lube and spray the bushing's insert. That will quiet it right down as well. It's also possible the mechanic who installed the LCA's used too much lubricating spray when installing the control arms. If that's the case it will eventually wear away over time. Or if you want to push it out faster, wash the bushing area down with soapy water and rinse clean avoiding any sensors (especially the downstream oxygen sensor located in the exhaust/catalytic converter). If the noise goes away, it was just too much lube. If it gets worse, drive out the water with a blast of air and use silicone spray. Regards! ---------- Intense Blue Pearl...
