Looking for something to do with the whole family during Labor Day? Bring the kids and come and enjoy the scenic beauty of Mt St Helens in Southern Washington and learn about the devastating eruption. This will be an all day event starting at the Visitors Center in Castle Rock, pinic at Seaquest State Park, and cruise to the Coldwater Visitor Center and the Johnston Ridge Observatory. This is an educational cruise so that families can join in on the fun that we have. The cost of the cruise is $4.00 per vehicle for use of the State Park covered picnic facilities and $6.00 per adult or $2.00 per child (5-15) to visit all three visitor centers. Here is the schedule for this very educational and fun cruise and don't forget to bring your camera. Saturday September 19:30 a.m. Meet at the Castle Rock Visitor Center http://www.parks.wa.gov/mountsthelens.asp - From I-5 Southbound take Exit 49 and turn left and go back over freeway. Stay on this road and the center is located on your right after approximately 5 miles. From I-5 Northbound take exit 49 and turn right, stay on that road for approximately 5 miles and center is on the right. 10:30 a.m. Leave the visitor center and head across the street to Seaquest State Park http://www.parks.wa.gov/parkpage.asp?selectedpark=Seaquest&pageno=1 for a potluck picnic. We ask that everyone bring a food dish and a dessert dish to share. Don't forget to bring your own plates, cups, utensils and drinks. Sorry no alcohol is allowed, as this is a PTCC event. Bring your "lil" remote PT along as we will have some timed racing going on. The park has a volleyball net and play grounds for the kids or for the adults for that matter. 12:30 pm Depart the state park and cruise to Coldwater Visitor center (47 miles through some very scenic country). We will spend some time there and then cruise the additional 7 miles to the Johnston Ridge observatory. The cruise will offcially end at the Johnston observatory, however, you may spend as long as you like there or motor back to the Coldwater Center. En-route we will have a Trivia quiz for you to fill out and the winner will receive a special prize. We have made arrangements for special room rates at the Mt St Helens Motel in Castle Rock, so get your reservations in now. You may stay one (August 31) or two nights if you prefer not to drive home once we are down off of the mountain (Sept 1). The rate is $55.00 for a one bed room (Queen) or $72.00 for a 2 bed (Queen) room per night. Be sure to tell them that you are with the PT Cruiser Club when you call, so that you get the special rate. They have 34 rooms, so call now for your reservations. Sorry that they do not have an 800 number. Their phone number is (360) 274-7721 and they accept all major credit cards. I think I have given you the info you need here, get your registration by sending me an email at gary.m.jones@cnet.navy.mil. ------------------ Salty Cruisin in "PeeDee the Purple Mist" PTCC Washington State Director
