New Carjacking Ploy

My sister, who is an attorney/judge for the state, sent me this. I know why she did; if I ever found anything on my Cruiser, I would be the first one jumping out of the car angrily to remove it. Beware of paper fliers tucked into the rear windshield. You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into Reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of no where, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised! If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later. ----------

Thanks for the head's up, HipCat. I guess it makes sense to check your car before getting in and driving off. Remove anything tucked under a wiper, front or rear... and check for any fluid leaks, broken glass near a tire or underinflated/flat tires while you're at it. ----------

This got snoped on another forum, but I still think it is sound advice. During the holidays, car jackings are very frequent at the malls in Birmingham. I think it's good to be extra-cautious with the holiday shopping season coming up. The big thing they caution against here is parking next to vans or large SUVs (which I try to avoid anyway) because that's where the lurkers are. Two of the most popular malls here offer free valet parking so you don't have to struggle with your shopping bags while getting into your car. ----------

Two of the most popular malls here offer free valet parking so you don't have to struggle with your shopping bags while getting into your car. The other thing about those large vans and SUV's is that when their doors open, they swing much higher than the average car's and will easily whack into the side of a lower-sitting vehicle. Great for adding to your "door ding" collection. Best to avoid 'em if possible... ----------

I'm about as anti-SUV as a person can get. One of them hit me head-on, causing me to lose my Cruiser for 6 weeks! Wednesday night I dropped by a local burger joint after work. I parked as far away from the entrance as possible and hugged the curb, leaving a good bit of space between my Cruiser and the next possible space. There were plenty of parking spaces, and I'll be doggone if SUV after SUV didn't whip into the adjacent space while I ate. (I sat at the window to keep an eye on it.) The worst one was this new mom who drug out about 500 pieces of baby equipment on the Cruiser's side. I was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. (I know; I'm awful.) ----------

Hi Rhonda.I don't think this would be a ploy that carjackers would use because it would require a unnecessary amount of exposure and time investment. When I think of parking 99%of the time it is nose first so something in my back window would catch my attention immeadiately,I would move it,and then get in car.Someone attempted to carjack one of my friends by appproaching him on foot at a light while his cohorts approached him on the other side.He smiled and said want something?, drew and racked his 45, and stuck it in the guys mouth. He then calmly said If you or your friends take one more step I will blow your head off so go away and have a nice day. They did bid a hasty retreat.Any attempts I have heard of are quick,up close and personal. All the best and God Bless.......Mike ---------- Mike Casabianca His: 2001 Black LE with Auto Transmission, BullDog Signs Flames, WeatherTec wind deflectors, cargo area mat, PT trash can, PT valve stem caps and Dart's coldair intake, chrome tail and headlight bezels, chrome bumper inserts, chrome license plate pillow, chrome fender trim, 1940's retro chrome on front and back fenders, door spears, chrome hatch door trim, chrome gas door, brushed chrome door sills, billet door pins, custom "BlueHaze" dash mat, MRK Group lugnut covers, dome light trim, etc. and the chrome goes on......
