New Purchase Can't Post

Pardon my ignorance but I don't know a lot about the PT Cruiser but I bought a slightly used one today. 13,000 miles, 2005, convertible, thecolor is the darker blue, 4 cyl turbo.

In some of the other messages I have seen a reference to "turbo lite" and LT vs GT.

What am I reading about?

BTW what had the average milage been

Thanks in advance.

Sami

Re: [Sami6] New Purchase Can't Post

Welcome, Sami6 and congratulations on your purchase Cheers I guarantee you will love this car!

There's only a couple of significant differences between the turbo lite and the high output turbo or GT. The turbo lite has 180 hp and can use regular gas while the GT, stage 0, is 220 hp and should use premium gas. The difference is created by the programming of the PCM module in the car. If you add the Stage 1 mod (new PCM with programming) to a turbo lite it will increase the output to 235 hp but you then have to use premium gas. You can also upgrade the GT with a Stage 1 and get 235 hp - so basically the Stage 1 makes them equal in terms of power. Bottom line is both cars will haul a$$ ...

As for gas mileage, it varies a lot. I've never gottep particularly good mileage (around 20 mpg) but then I have to drive in the worst possible conditions - SF Bay Area.

Again, welcome and enjoy the ride Wave

For twenty + years I dorve a Crown Vic Ford police cruiser, super kick in the butt isn't necessary for me.

Thanks again

Hi Sami, welcome to the forums. I have the 2005 Cool Vanilla Touring Edition Turbo Lite. I like the idea that I can use regular gas and I range from 20-25 mpg. It goes fast enough to get me a ticket! ROFL After all, it's a "Cruiser" not a dragster! Where are you from?

Re: [Sami6] New Purchase Can't Post

Congrats, I also have a TURBO lite. It is plenty fast. I am halfway done applying the air box mod to give it a free aur flow within the airbox. Simply add a K&N filter, remove the air silencer, etc... go to www.ptcrew.com to read the details. The mod gives the car a bit moe giddy-up and helps to save gas a bit too.

But if your happy with the car as is, sit back and enjoy the air!

Today I noticed an odd thing though, the lil button on the seat bucle came off, now the seat belt snap slides all the ways done the strap and I have to hunt for it. I also noticed an odd swirl within the windshield glass right in front of me EYES! Also some odd swirls in the paint around the convert top...I am gonna swing it by my delaer and see what they can do.

But the car is fun, reliable and gets a few stares!

Mike:

Thanks for the info, I DO wish the milage was a little higher but I am not much of a wrench turner. The best I could do was put some self stick chrome pieces on the other day and then I was awake all night worried about putting them on ****-eyed Mad

The car is fun, had had the top down a couple of days with the early spring days up here. Of course the looks I got were those that thoght I was crazy.

If you are ever up here in CT give me a hollar.... would be happy to buy you a coffee.

Best,

Sami

Re: [Sami6] New Purchase Can't Post

Hey Sami, I am no wrench turner myself. But reading all the posts on how easy it is to do some things are your own gave me confidence to try the filter swap and silencer removal. Removing the white doughnut within the airbox was simple, took a bit to get it off but I loosened it, ran the car a bit then it slippped off. Purchase the K&N filter and replace it. The car sounds a bit rougher too, growls a bit.

I too had the top down on those days when it was in the 50's as did a lot of other convertible owners here in northern NJ...the people giving the stares are those who can't do it themselves!!Cool

I am afraid of putting on chrome sticky items, out of curiosity what did you place on your car? I was thinking of those tribal chrome magnetic ones to put below the pt logo on the doors. Once I get the Stage 1 chip installed and zip this tub to 235 HP, I'll shoot for a nice dual exhaust! OH THE DREAMS!

My director lives in Fairfield CT, if I ever get up there I'll let ya know and we'll drag race!
Cheers

Re: [mikemcl] New Purchase Can't Post

Mike:

From my own experience, I would stay away from two things, the nose bra and anything magnetic. Dust gets under both and wears the finish.

I had a bra on a Talon years ago, went through the winter with it, even though I would wash the car several times a week, the minute particles wore the paint so the outline of the bra was visible. The same goes for the magnetic.

I put a chrome gas tank filler cover on, the door handle chrome thingies and the chrome spears along the bottom edge near the rocker panels. I have full faith in the double sided tape.... my thought is, once it is on it will stay until the car sold. Also sticky part of the tape can be removed with solvent and then a good coat of Maguires. Reconfirm my thoughts with a body shop though.

What kind of business in Fairfield ?

Re: [Sami6] New Purchase Can't Post

Hey, ou have to post a pic of your ride soon. Those chrome items you added are some I considered. Where did you purchase them, did you find the spears a hassle to install? The cups and the filler door are in my future!

Also check out the buick port holes that some are selling on Ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com /ebaymotors/2003-05-CHRYSLER-PT-CRUISER-PORT-HOLES-6PC-PILLAR-POST_W0QQitemZ8040478077QQcategoryZ33654QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemdo a searhc for them in the ebay motors section...they look real nifty on the sides of the hood...gives the PT a bit more nostalgia...
