I have only been lurking/posting since late August so this may be old business to the old timers. Has anyone tried or contacted the PT builders in Toluca? I am sure we could get some inside info from someone who works there. Surely a small percent of them are surfers. It would be nice if they knew how much we appreciate their efforts and that we have a club. And surely some of them drive a PT. Just my opinion. Up for grabs type thought.

You are correct Englishman! The Mexican workers are poor they make less than our min. wage, and we exploit the hell out of them by having them build our cars and other products. Then we go to the dealer to buy our car at extreamly inflated prices. Is there something wrong with that picture?

Hey, man! It's me, Chuey Vato Loco, man. When I was on vaction in Mexico City last June I took a ride over to Toluca in hopes of getting a tour of the plant, man. I couldn't get past the front gate much less get inside the plant. Maybe my reputation got there before me, man! From my life experiences in Mexico I can tell you the average production worker in a factory environment cannot afford to buy any car, much less a new car. Minimum wage is 3 dollars a day, that's right, a day, not an hour! Fortunately, the auto workers of Mexico are unionized and make considerably higher than minimum wage. My, some of them make upwards of $125 a week! Now there's progress! This is a country where people with a master's degree might make $20,000 a year. Because "luxury" taxes are ridiculously high in Mexico it is actually cheaper to buy a PT Cruiser in the U.S. than in Mexico! The best selling new cars in Mexico are the Volkswagen Beetle (yes, it's still made there!) for about $7,000 for a 2001 model and for about $9,000 you can get a Nissan Tsuru (a stripped down Sentra). A PT Cruiser is by far a "rich man's" car in Mexico. CHUEY VATO LOCO

I didn't expect that the average worker would have access to the internet. What I was thinking that the folks in the engineering/management positions would. I am sure that DC has most of those positions filled with degreed people from the USA and other countries as well as some mexicans nationals. If someone could come up with an address for the factory I would sent a letter in spanish (and english). I know from previous experience that companies love to get the type of letter that I had in mind.

While I was installing the underseat storage drawer in my PT a few weeks ago, I found a piece of paper that looked a lot like an ATM receipt. The printout was all in Spanish and it said "Banco" something on it, as well as "Toluca" and "Chrysler". The corner of the paper that might have contained "useful" information was torn off. I don't know whyI didn't hold on to the piece of paper as PT memorabilia. I was a bad litterbug and tossed it out in the parking lot (I guess I hoped someone else might see it, pick it up, and be totally dumbfounded as to how a Mexican ATM receipt dated last summer ended up in a parking lot in central Maryland!)------------------ '01 Black 27F, Luxury Touring Grp, Moonroof Grp, 4-Wheel Disc Brakes w/ABS & Traction Control, CD/Cassette Player, Mopar Subwoofer

As fair trade with Mexico increases perhaps in less than 100 years of more progress their workers will want to stay in Mexico to purchase our products and services. It will be a joy to have two adjacent countries to the USA with decent standards of living. (Ralph Nader and that funny little guy to the contrary). Mexico needs to drop its high taxes so that their new "rich" workers can afford products made in the USA. Low taxes - free the people, a Cruiser in every pot, etc. Yes, I have driven thorough parts of Mexico (just loved some of those small cities away from the border, great food and reasonable prices).

Fair trade?? Now that is a derogatory statement if I ever heard one! Something like central intelligence agency. HA!
