The first thing I did to mine was chuck the muffler. It sounds awesome and the motor is a lot snappier. . I use an old supertrap that I got someplace. It has ni discs on it so it is basically now just a resonated tip, and given the condition of the wadding I don't think its doing much resonating. If you like how a SRT-4 sounds you will like this. ---------- 04 DC3#384, returned via lemon law. NOW 04 DC3#392 Both are 5 speeds. So if you just remove the muffler, what do you put in its place? And when you "remove the muffler" do you just cut it off and replace it with a section of typical exhaust piping? ----------

This thought is on older vehicles... I thought that when you take off the muffler without replacing it with something else, you would burn the valves because the muffler would cool the return air before it would reach the motor. ----------

Thanks for the information yall. i had heard that sometimes running no muffler can ruin the valves, but i also heard that turbo's do need any back pressure? or does the cat. converter still create enough back pressure for the engine? and i thought that the SRT-4 had a bigger turbo in them? (havent really read up on them much to see what the big difference is) ----------

Doesn't back pressure determine spool up time of the turbo. No back pressure creates slower spooling of the turbo and too much back pressure obviously slows down the escape of exhaust. So is the setup on the PT difference because all the other turbo cars I've owned, nobody has ever said the turbo wants no back pressure?? ----------

Back pressure never helps spool-up times - the faster the exhaust gases can exit the faster any given turbo is going to spool up. Spool time is a function of the size and shape of the turbo blades. There is some good technical information about it in an article off of a thread Mean Green had referenced in another thread on this site. If you like technical stuff, it's a good read.

Well, contrary to my previous post, the wadding in my old Supertrapp must have been doing something because today I blew the whole core out of the old thing. Now I have a straight piped exhaust with what amounts to a 18 inch megaphone on the end of it. It got noticably louder but I STILL LOVE IT. I had the Borla dual exhaust kit off of a base cruiser on my GT. After my accident and the month that it was sitting my resonator had rusted through and had a huge hole in it.. so now I run a straight pipe but still have the dual tips, I like the sound, it pops a lot more.. ---------- 2003 GT Cruiser Fully Loaded Borla Dual Exhaust K&N Drop In filter Viper Remote Start/ Keyless entry
